Lantern: real Google search & view websites from anywhere on your Mac with Option+Space.
Hi, I built a small productivity utility called Lantern, an app that allows you to search Google and open full websites without leaving your workspace, with a simple keyboard shortcut. Problem I wanted a simple utility where I could do quick research while I was working or finishing a school assignment. Switching into my browser often broke my train of thought or got me distracted for sometimes 30 minutes at a time, so I needed to build something for myself with the ease of Spotlight and the power of real web search. Comparison Lantern may feel familiar to Spotlight on first glance. However, try to use it for anything web-related and you'll find Spotlight's basically useless for web research. At most it might dig up something from your emails or show a single barely-related link. Lantern, though, reveals Google results and lets you navigate into websites - all still on top of your workspace. Pricing Lantern is just $2.99 USD on the Mac App Store, and I've also left ten free promo codes in the comments. It's been a massive productivity boost for me, and it's got some great reviews so far, so you can give it a try with confidence! I'm looking for feedback on how I could better position the app on the App Store, along with general comments about the app itself.

Thanks for sharing. Seems like a great app. I just purchased it.
Thank you so much for your support!

Thank you so much! This is going to be help my study a lot
I used that one : 7JXKWM397799 Thank you for granting codes. Have a nice day. Will look at it and report later.
Thanks a heap! Looking forward to your feedback.
Fantastic app. Addresses a real pain point and has extremely fair pricing. Looks like codes are gone but I’ll happily pay full-price for this. Edit: you could charge a dollar more and folks would still pick it up. About to purchase on the App Store.
Thanks a heap for your support! My main problem with Lantern right now is a lack of discovery on the App Store (i.e. showing it to people in the first place), and I’m not entirely sure how to drive that up - because it seems to do well once people find it.
Looks like it would be useful. Just to make sure, it is possible to change the keyboard shortcut to something else?
This is a neat idea. Do you intend to allow use of other search engines in due course?
Thanks for the support! Unfortunately API costs mean I don't intend to allow other search engines at the moment - though some of the most annoying parts of Google (i.e. AI mode) aren't present in Lantern!
That does look neat.
Like the design!
Should be very useful. Especially when doing Research :)
Thanks a heap! Exactly what I was aiming for :)
looks nice! would be cool if you could do the same but hook it up with some of the AI chat providers like Gemini
I just bought the app, and have tried searching for different things I need for my uni work. So far, I am glad I found this app because it makes essays and research papers so much easier u/DavidGamingHDR , I hope you keep making great apps like this.
Is this limited to google or can we use other search engines also? If we could set other search engines it would be dope .

I purchased the app! It's incredibly useful for quick lookups without the hassle of opening a separate tab. Definitely going to be using this a lot. One small thing: when I try to select text with my mouse, the app window moves along with the cursor. This might be specific to my setup, but wanted to let you know. I'm using the Zen browser.
