My entire catalog of 27 Mac apps, bundled for $39.99

Full contextOriginal content · Reddit

Hi everyone! I'm Yanis, I've been a programmer-in-love for the past 32 years (no, I'm - paradoxically - not as old as you may imagine lol), a professional Mac developer for the past 16 years at least, with several of my apps also in the MAS and the lead developer of the Arturo programming language. And... I'm here to tell you about my recent bundle: essentially, it's everything you may see on enSili.co - including popular apps like Specimen, WiFi Radar Pro, QR Wizard, etc - all in one bundle, essentially at 10% of the original price: https://ensili.co/offer Now, you might be thinking "this guy's selling me something" - which I obviously am. 😳 (For reasons of full disclosure, in case it's not already patently clear: I'm the creator of every single one of these apps) But you can also see it as win-win: you (hopefully) get a lot of value for your money, while supporting a stubborn indie Mac dev who - against the times, the trends, and all the AI slop invading everything - keeps insisting on making his own apps. (and using them himself too, above all) FYI: all of them are lifetime licenses (not expiring ever, no subscriptions, no nothing), and include minor updates up to the next major version. Feel free to let me know what you think - constructive criticism is always very welcome too! And I'm here to answer any questions you may have! PS: For years I've insisted on "we" - pretending we were a team (and it still slips through the cracks from time to time). But so many years later... I think it's actually much better to just be a one-man team. 😉

Happy to answer anything about the individual apps if you're wondering whether a specific one is worth it or what it offers. And I'm perfectly open to suggestions and ideas too - I genuinely take every single one into account, trust me!

Can I actually ask you a general app question? I noticed in your link that it says you can download to two different Macs. Why go that route versus Apple ID login allowing you to access on any device you have your Apple ID logged into? This is not a critique, it is coming from a place of curiosity as I am trying to finalize my first app as we speak.

Good question! Basically, it comes down to how the apps' licensing/purchases are set up. I've done that since basically the beginning via Paddle (and their macOS framework), which makes it relatively easy. And I obviously have nothing to do with the user's Apple ID either, since it's not a Mac App Store purchase in that case. Now, regarding the "up to 2 Macs" limit, it's more of a soft limit than anything, just a way to slightly control the licenses (because a license with no limits, that leaks, means you don't really have a product at all). That said, as you'll notice pretty soon yourself: there isn't even a question of whether someone can find a way to get your apps for free. If they want to, they will. The real question is how many are *actually* willing to buy them and support your work in a decent way. So think of it more as a good-will thing than actually locking anyone out. 😉 Just my two cents!

Honest question: so "lifetime licenses up to a next major version"? Since naturally you decide what qualifies as a major update; is there a way to know which apps are going to be outdated soon? Doesn't seem like a "lifetime" to me, unless nowadays the definition only scopes whatever "major" means.

Thanks for your question! I get the confusion. Let me explain (at least the way I see it, and how I've always approached the subject): - Licenses *are* lifetime ones, meaning that whatever license you have bought will work forever for the version in question; no "license expired", no extra charge. The license is for life. - Major upgrades are usually things that deserve their... own place on the shelf, so to speak; something substantial, completely new features, new UI, perhaps the whole app rewritten from scratch - most definitely not minor fixes, or improvements upon what was already there. Look, I understand it may sound "arbitrary" but in essence it's a way for me, for example, as a developer, to have the motivation (the financial one too) to keep working on a given app idea, and keep adding to it, even if that includes complete retakes on the same idea. (And trust me, it's not like I come up with a new mega-version every once in a while; it's more about improving the existing ones than quickly jumping on the next one) In any case, I assure you it doesn't hide an ulterior motive behind, or any intention on my side to... trick anybody with an app and then say "oops, now there is a new version - too bad!" or try over-charging anybody for the same thing. People who have contacted me over any of the apps hopefully know already that I'm - at least - trying to be as open and transparent as possible. It's really just my way of trying to keep it fair for everybody - me included, as someone who partially makes a living off of this! I believe you understand! 😄

Haha, thank you! 😄 Honestly one of the most fun (and most frustrating - if I go into OCD mode lol) parts of the whole thing. Appreciate you noticing!

Out of curiosity, are you using Arturo in some of your apps?

u/yaniszafOPReply

That's an actually very interesting question. To begin with, let me tell you that I started working on Arturo precisely because I wanted something that I couldn't find (namely, something that felt intuitive, and easy-to-use like Ruby -- not necessarily similar, syntax-wise - with the ease of its gems, etc, only portable, easy to cross-compile for different OSes, etc). Arturo has reached this level very recently. Also, all of the apps in here (my "job" part) are still Mac-only, so that portability part is largely left unexplored, especially taking into account how well Swift works for macOS (and the whole native ecosystem that goes with it). That being said: the language is already used heavily, in production, for a relatively-big website I'm part of (with 10-20K unique visitors daily), so... in that sense, I consider it reliable enough, albeit in... constant progress. Also, re: apps per se, I already have a couple of things under construction, one of which will probably be the first Mac app of mine that will prominently feature Arturo. But let's see! Sidenote: If you're curious, feel free to join our discord server (https://discord.gg/YdVK2CB) - if I'm personally not online, somebody else from the guys will gladly help you out for sure (I promise we are a relatively friendly and welcoming bunch! lol)

I absolutely will. As a matter of fact, most of them have started years ago (the oldest one of all, still active I mean, must be 15 years old, more or less) - and I keep improving them, adding things, combining it with feedback, adding more app ideas, etc. With all honesty, it's more than just "work" for me - I *actually* love this. (And even though I may not always get it right, that's what I'm here for... and keep working on it! 😉)

Browsed the apps, instant buy. I already have solutions for the handful of these that I expect to use, but happy to explore alternatives and more importantly, to support devs who offer great value, which this is!

u/yaniszafOPReply

Thank you so much! It genuinely means a lot. 😄 Enjoy the bundle! And feel free to let me know in case you need anything! (Suggestions/ideas included! 😉 )

u/yaniszafOPReply

Awesome. Thank you so much! 😄 Hope you enjoy them, and... you know where to find me if you ever need anything! 😉

Me, myself and I just bought the bundle. 😉 Not sure yet if we’ll be able to use absolutely everything in it, but I’m sure plenty of it will come in handy. Either way, this is a seriously great deal. Thanks for offering it!

u/sillyburrito

Yanis is a great developer who stands by his apps and has excellent customer support. He’s helped me with various issues over time and is eager to help. Easily worth a buy even though I already had some of the apps. Thanks Yanis!

u/ChrisGVE

Just bought the pack, will need time to figure them all out 😉

Commenting to say QR Wizard is a must-have. Love the app and the evolution from v2 to v3 was big.

u/Vesper6

Grabbed your bundle! Thanks for this! I'm running into issues updating a few of the apps (generally will say there was an error running the update installer). Additionally, a couple of apps didn't prompt me for license info. PhotoFoundry has both of these symptoms currently. M1 Max and just updated to the new Tahoe. Just an FYI!

u/voprosy

Solid deal! And great portfolio! One thing I would like to see is the release notes on each application. Naturally i'm not interested in all the applications, but whatever catches my attention, I always like to see the release notes to understand what has been improved and changed recently. Otherwise version number and date means very little.

Ha, sorry to disappoint! Sindre's a legend, no question, not sure I can compete with that. But, since you're here now, might as well take a look? 😄

This is really impressive. What a great catalog to have as a solo dev. Which apps would you say have been your popular hits?
