Vois 2.0: local Voice AI studio for Mac with 100+ voices, Voice Design, no per character meter

Full contextOriginal content · Reddit

I am Praney, founder of Vois. I posted an earlier version here a few months ago, and this is a Vois 2.0 update for people who who need local TTS for their AudioBooks, Podcasts, Games, Voiceovers, Faceless Youtube videos, without counting tokens. About me and Vois: - Founder LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/praney-behl-b9129313/ - Official site: https://vois.so - Official download: https://vois.so/download - Privacy policy: https://vois.so/legal/privacy - Terms: https://vois.so/legal/terms Problem: Cloud TTS pricing punishes iteration. If you are making an audiobook, podcast, YouTube voiceover, app narration, training script, or game dialogue, the workflow is not one clean generation. It is retakes, pacing fixes, pronunciation edits, alternate reads, chapter revisions, and lines that are technically correct but emotionally wrong. Most cloud voice tools make every retry feel billable. They also require your scripts to leave your machine. Vois is built around the opposite workflow: generate locally on your desktop, keep scripts on your machine, and redo lines without watching a per-character meter on paid plans. What changed since my earlier r/MacApps post Vois 2.0 is now much closer to the full local voice studio I originally wanted to build: - 100+ studio-quality voices across creator, narrator, app, assistant, and character categories. - Voice cloning from a consented sample on paid plans. - Voice Design in Pro, so you can describe a voice instead of only picking from presets. - Omni in Pro for 600+ languages. - Script, cast, generate, retake, master, and export in one app. - Local generation on Mac Apple Silicon and Windows. - No script upload for generation. The thing I care about most is the iteration loop. You should be able to try the line again without doing character-budget math in your head. Comparison: ElevenLabs, Murf, and PlayHT are strong cloud voice tools, especially if you want a browser-first service or hosted API workflow. Vois is different in a few ways: - It is an installable desktop studio, not just a web prompt box. - Generation runs locally instead of sending scripts to a cloud TTS service. - Paid plans are flat subscriptions rather than per-character usage pools. - The workflow includes editor, voice casting, retakes, mastering, and export. Compared with wiring open-source voice models yourself, Vois is for people who want the studio around the model: voice library, project workflow, timeline, mastering, export, and a Mac-friendly product surface. Pricing Normal pricing: - Subscriber: USD 29/month. - Pro: USD 49/month. Founders pricing is open this week for the first 100 founders and starts at USD 10/month: - Subscriber: use FOUNDERLOCAL. - Pro: use FOUNDERPRO. Monthly only. Ends June 21. Founders keep the monthly rate while the subscription stays active. Pricing page: https://vois.so/pricing There is also a free trial so you can test the workflow before deciding. What I would love feedback on. Happy to answer technical questions too.

Generation runs locally You want to charge people 30$ / month for running models on their own hardware?

Fair question. I am not trying to sell the TTS models themselves as if local models do not exist. The paid product is the application around them: a Mac-friendly studio for scripts, casting, retakes, pronunciation fixes, mastering, export, updates, maintenance, and support. If someone wants to wire local models together themselves, that is totally fine. Vois is for people who want the workflow packaged as a productivity tool, especially for audiobooks, podcasts, video voiceover, game dialogue, and client scripts.

Kinda hilarious keeping a subscription plan for running models locally!

Thanks for the comment, please read my responses above.

What is the subscription for? Is there some backend, cloud service, or etc that I’m not seeing? Or is the subscription charging users monthly to use a GUI and local resources only?

u/Numerous-Exercise788OPReply

Mostly the second, with an important nuance: the subscription is for the app/productivity layer, not for cloud generation. Vois is meant to make local voice work usable as a studio: script management, 100+ voices, voice cloning from a consented sample on paid plans, retakes, pacing/pronunciation fixes, mastering/export, regular updates, ongoing maintenance, and support. You can absolutely build your own local setup if you prefer. The same way you can buy ingredients and cook at home instead of going to a restaurant, Vois is for people who value the finished workflow and convenience.

Yes. The generation runs locally in the desktop app. The subscription is not for reselling the raw TTS models; it is for the app layer around them: the interface, voice library, script workflow, retakes, mastering/export, updates, maintenance, and support.

Fair reaction. It is not going to make sense for everyone. The subscription is not for reselling the raw local model. It is for the app layer around it: setup, voice library, script workflow, retakes, mastering/export, ongoing model/runtime maintenance, macOS/Windows compatibility, updates, and support. If someone already has a local model workflow they like, they probably do not need Vois. Vois is for people who want the maintained studio experience around local generation.

Is the Omni mentioned in the product description this: https://github.com/k2-fsa/OmniVoice/

u/Numerous-Exercise788OPReply

Yes, that is the upstream OmniVoice project behind the Omni feature I am referring to. To be clear, Vois is not claiming to own or sell the raw model. The paid product is the desktop studio around local generation: setup, voice library, script workflow, retakes, Voice Design, mastering/export, updates, maintenance, and support. If someone wants to work directly with the GitHub repo, that is totally valid. Vois is for people who want that capability packaged into a Mac/Windows voice production app.

Makes no sense to pay $30/month to use local models(less quality). A one time purchase might work.

Thank you for your feedback. We are planning for a Lifetime deal offer. Its not the local models our users pay but the experience, like any other software out there. People don't have to pay for Microsoft Office because Lotus Office is free, it is the software, the easy of use, the user experience and the functionality. Can people get their work done using Lotus Office - absolutely, but most people still buy MS Office. Thank you for your time.

Thank you, and sure you can. If you are curious why would you use Vois over anything else, simple answer is to download for free and try it.

Fair question, and if a permanent fallback license is a hard requirement, Vois probably is not the right purchase today. I have not done a full Bantr teardown, and I do not want to misrepresent their product. The way I think about Vois is: local desktop voice generation plus the maintained studio around it: 100+ voice library, script/casting workflow, retakes, mastering/export, Voice Design and Omni in Pro, macOS/Windows compatibility work, updates, and support. If Bantr fits your workflow and the lifetime purchase model matters most, that may be the better choice for you. Vois is aimed at people who value the ongoing maintained studio workflow and flat subscription over per-character cloud pricing.
