My Mac apps are now available on Setapp

Full contextOriginal content · Reddit

Hi everyone, This week, three of my apps went live on Setapp's new single-app marketplace: Taphouse — GUI for Homebrew. Browse, install, update, and manage packages without typing brew commands. Manage services, taps, and Brewfiles from one interface. Some of you might remember this one from my launch post a few months back. MacPulse — System monitor with an Insights Engine that explains your Mac in plain English. Instead of raw numbers, it tells you what's actually happening and what to do about it. 30-day history, performance session recording, fan control. Captain's Deck — Dual-pane file manager with SFTP, S3, built-in terminal, inline Git, and keyboard-first navigation. All three are native SwiftUI, Apple Silicon optimized, one-time purchase (no subscriptions). Also available direct with 14-day free trials: https://taphouse.multimodalsolutions.gr https://macpulse.app https://captains-deck.com Of course all apps can be purchased as direct download as always and Macpulse with Captain's Deck are also available on the Mac App store. (More info about that on their website). All 3 have received major updates and features and keep being actively developed furthermore based on user's feedback and requests. Thanks!

Stuff like this is why I recently cancelled my Setapp subscription. It was always something of an indulgence to me, but now with apps not included in the subscription and such a heavy focus on AI. It's just not worth it. I've replaced all the Setapp apps I was using by either buying the app or using a free alternative.

I’m doing the same. Presumably they must have internal stats showing that the AI stuff is incredibly popular, but it’s not for me.

It's very obvious your website and apps are vibe coded. You couldn't even get the accuracy of your comparisons correct: https://taphouse.multimodalsolutions.gr/guide/taphouse-vs-cork You list features that you say Cork doesn't have, when it does, lol.

I was just trying out Updatest and am in the free trial. However, after reading this, I'm definitely buying it ASAP.

I totally dislike SetApp. But seems you put a lot of work into this. As long as you don’t incur in copyright issues I would say: just let the market decide

Dude vibe slops the most useless apps and somehow manages to get listed on SetApp, effectively lowering the standard of apps listed there. Good thing it's paywalled, so nobody will buy it because, they bought SetApp to get apps for free… Brah, since you know about SetApp, why aren't you making a few screenshots of the other apps like the ones by MacPaw and ask your tasteless vibe sloping tool to design something pretty. Funny how kiddos think it's not like the whole world is able to slop even better apps with 1-5 prompts. If you're young, excuse my rant, it's not necessarily personal. Just keep learning, you're on a good path. But don't dream too big, you're up only for equally big disappointments on the road ahead. Also, check `getdesign .md`, and honestly, drop the illusions of grandeurness. You're much better to build a portfolio of open-source work and join a team to do some real work. Get real. EDIT: Sorry, I take most of my rant's words back, mainly because I didn't check all 3 apps. So, first 2 are poopsy-poop, but Captain's Deck actually does have potential. You're getting it, after all, it's all a numbers game, you can fail 1000k times, all you need is that 1001th try to get traction. So, for Captain's Deck, I really really suggest you actually get away from the default-ish macOS UI theme -- nobody likes that, it's not looking like an app I would pay for if it looks that way. And, instead, please try to make it look exactly how it looks to the right-hand side of the landing page's hero section. I might even buy it myself if you manage to get that sweet design theme. Just lmk via a ping here if you're doing it, and again when you did it.

So, even despite the fact that I monthly pay for Setapp, I need to purchase the apps? 🤨 https://imgur.com/0YaXbxZ

It’s setapps new model. I tried getting my app on the normal subscription tier they offer but they told me that pathway was already booked. And I was offered this new pay-once model like the app store. I was most likely pushed towards the new model on purpose but it’s still good exposure ig. I’m just waiting for them to respond.

FYI, your dock icons are not the right size. They don't shrink like they're supposed to when the dock gets more full.

Just a heads up, I liked the MacPulse app, so I went to your website to check the price... And the price is literally the last thing on the page aaaaall the way down :(

Congrats! I always wondered - how hard was the integration process of the SDK?

u/jupe69OPReply

Not hard at all but I had experience with Mac App Store

u/yu9n

Do you offer a bundle price? You know, where I pay once and get all three software programs?

u/jupe69OPReply

you can contact them and they will check out your app. They will let you know if they are up for it.

u/EpistlesMail

I never heard about Setapp before. What exactly is it? How many people are using it?

u/Thick_Replacement876Reply

Game pass version of the mac app store. You pay a monthly subscription to download apps that are put up on their store.

Congrats! I can see potential in all of them! Especially, Macpulse! I think Mac should be managed better! A lot old Mac are pretty good but they are almost unusable, as modern apps are not so much care about the memory and storage at all, they just used too much! What a pity! Maybe you can do something about performance improvements!
