Full contextOriginal content · Reddit

Hi Macapps, Please can you suggest some Mindmap and also Scrapbook apps (for placing images), ideally shareable with others to annotate. Thanks!

Freeform (built into macOS, free) works well for the scrapbook/annotate-together part, live sync if everyone's on Apple stuff. For mindmaps, MindNode or XMind are both solid and let you export/share the boards.

Here are some free mindmapping tools that you should check out: draw.io Desktop (free) https://www.diagrams.net https://github.com/jgraph/drawio-desktop/releases/tag/v21.2.1 (Online diagramming tool with local storage. For creating floor-plans, organization charts, process flows, mind-maps, circuit diagrams, story maps and timelines.) CMap Tools (free) http://cmap.ihmc.us http://cmap.ihmc.us/download/ ViewYourMInd (free) https://sourceforge.net/projects/vym/ https://sourceforge.net/projects/vym/files/latest/download

I use SimpleMind and it is fantastic and one-time purchase. There's also a free version.

for the scrapbook + shared annotation combo specifically, Milanote is the one that nails both, image boards you can invite others to comment on. Excalidraw (free) is great if you want live collaborative whiteboarding with images pasted in. and if everyone's on Apple already, Freeform is free and syncs instantly. mindmaps I'd go MindNode or XMind, both one-time and export cleanly

The lifetime requirement changes the shortlist because live collaboration usually needs a hosted service. If annotation can happen by exchanging a file, a local mind map app can work well. If several people need to comment on the same board at the same time, Freeform is the cleanest no cost option when everyone uses Apple devices, while Milanote is a service rather than a lifetime purchase. I would decide that boundary before comparing drawing features.
