Notchkin - notes that live in your MacBook's notch

Full contextOriginal content · Reddit

Hi everyone! I built this app because I have the memory of a goldfish and the patience of a toddler. I'd have a thought, freeze up deciding which of the 13 note/checklist apps I'd installed and abandoned deserved it, and by the time I'd chosen, the thought was long gone. So I gave up and decided to use the single most useless piece of screen real estate Apple forced upon us: the notch. Hover over it, a panel slides down, you write your note, you get on with your life. Features: - Rich text - Hashtags for organizing and filtering - Checklists, bullet lists, and numbered lists - Pinned notes - Global search and find-in-note - Quick Capture and Paste as New Note - Export to RTF or Markdown - A few different accent colors and fonts If you're a keyboard guy, you can do basically all of the above without ever reaching for the mouse. And because most productivity apps are boring and I'm a mean little man, the app comes with a sticky-note mascot that's occasionally passive-aggressive and far too pleased with himself. How it compares: vs Apple Notes: Apple Notes means launching the app or hunting for its window every time, which is exactly the friction that loses the thought. Notchkin sits in the notch, so capturing is one hover away with nothing to open. vs all-in-one notch apps (NotchNook, Alcove, etc.): those treat the notch as a Swiss-army utility for media controls, file shelves, widgets, with notes as a minor afterthought, if they're there at all. Notchkin does notes only, and does them fully. Pricing: $4.99 on Mac App Store, one-time, no subscription. Check out the website to meet Notchkin and try the demo: notchkin.app I’ve also got a few 100% off codes to give away. Comment if you want one and I’ll DM some random winners over the next few days.

Exactly what i thought haha, it makes the brand even more likeable

Does the app have any auto sorting? Based on content or anything? And does it do lists ( grocery lists)

u/dannystanOPReply

Sorting-wise you can do newest, oldest, or alphabetical, and pinned notes stay up top. There's no AI that auto-sorts by topic, but hashtags cover that - just drop #groceries in a note and tap the tag to filter the list to just those. And yep, it does lists, checklists with tick-off boxes, plus bullet and numbered lists.

oh nice this would be solid for grocery. can i share a list with my wife And she could open it on her Mac?

Looks really good. Would appreciate a code. Thanks.

I would love to get a code, if you still have one available. Thank you!

I, too, have the memory of a goldfish and the patience of a toddler! Please put me down for…what were we talking about again?

I like the look of this. Does this integrate with apple notes at all?

I've been looking for an alternative to my current app (Edgemark) because I found myself accidentally opening it so many times when I hit the edge of my monitor, having it in the notch is a cool approach! A code would be sweet to test it out!

Love the landing page and the character! Rather than lifeless "designs", I love the idea of a rude little robot.

u/codismycopilot

If you still have any codes left, I’d love one! Or not. I don’t care. Whatever. 😉

The focus on a single job (fast capture) instead of becoming another all-in-one notes app is probably what makes this interesting. The notch interaction is a good constraint for it. Curious if you’ve tested how often users actually revisit pinned notes vs just using it as an inbox.

Dude, turning the notch into a quick-capture tool is actually genius. I usually dump my thoughts into Apple Notes and never look at them again because of the friction. The passive-aggressive mascot sold it for me lmao. Would love a code if you still have one!
