Read-it-later apps as of May 2026: GoodLinks, Raindrop.io or a different one?

Personally I just put the links in a note-app, together with some notes. Categorized by subject. In my opinion, if you make saving/archiving too easy (just one click) you will soon drown in your own collection of things to read. You need a threshold to think twice about what you are going to save for later reading.

I totally agree with your statement! I learnt it the hard way 😅 Now, I always save a link I want to come back later to Things 3 (using quick capture feature) to Inbox. And when I review them, I save them as link on Anybox or in Obsidian if I want to save its content. Obsidian’s web clipper is super handy & powerful for that purpose. I started following this method as I recently bought a new MBP.

I use Raindrop every single day. Happy user here. I did not find a good alternative to raindrop so far.

I have AnyBox LTD, GoodLinks LTD and Raindrop paid subscription. I use Raindrop.

GoodLinks is hopeless, and you need to keep checking for which articles it fluffed. I was a long-time user, but I ran out of patience. I hate to say it, but I'm back to Readwise

Readwise Reader is the one most people end up settling on if they want highlights + notes properly integrated. It syncs highlights across sources (web, PDFs, ebooks) and the annotation experience is the best in class. GoodLinks is solid for pure read-it-later without the annotation layer, clean, reliable capture, good Mac/iOS sync. If you just want to save and read without a complex system, it's the right choice. Raindrop is more of a bookmark manager than a read-it-later app, better for organizing links you want to revisit than articles you want to read once and annotate. On paywall articles: most apps handle this inconsistently. The most reliable method is still the browser extension capturing the full content at save time rather than fetching it later. If highlights and notes are the priority, Readwise Reader. If simplicity is the priority, GoodLinks.

To access most paywall articles (like Medium), I used to use freedium.cfd shortcut on safari. However I’m not sure whether this still works or not!

Without annotation? I annotate on Goodlinks all the time.

Am I stupid to just use the safari Reading List ?

Even though my RSS feed reader Current has a "read later" function that saves articles to my device, I still use Raindrop as my dedicated read-later app. Mainly because I can access it from everywhere (web, phone etc.), unlike Current, which is not available as a browser version atm

I've recently started using karakeep. After omnivore's shut down i was on the lookout for a replacement. Karakeep was the one that finally came closest.

I prefer to save pages offline myself and import them into something like Obsidian.

I just save anything in double memory, quickest way to save links and text

I have used flyleaf a lot but recently switched to goodlinks. Would recommend them both for their merits. Earlier was on readwise but the high pricing for my region didn’t make sense beyond the trial period 😔
