Congrats! But.... ...with all due respect, If you have five thousand files in your download folder, you need something to fix in your head first before fixing something on your Mac. Allow me a suggestion for your app: Build in a counter for your download folder (or any chosen folder for that matter), and let it activate a nagging notification when a user defined threshold is reached.
Not a bad idea. I reduced mine from 125gb to 88 GB, 15,235 items left currently. Problem is I have lots of projects, and don't always take the time to file project critical files at the time I'm working on other parts of the project, downloading stuff for it, etc. So I definitely need to close those loops better, before moving on to other things.
Hmmm, interesting one. Maybe stupid suggestion or this feature already exists, but: The only thing stopping me from trusting any AI with my files is the fear it'll scatter everything and I can't undo it. if there's a dry-run preview (show me the full move plan, let me approve or tweak it, then one-click undo if it's wrong) I'd trust it much more...

Our competitor asks 147$ lifetime. Our's is better and we are building a File Agent system with features added on monthly basis.
Looks very clean in terms of UI. My Downloads folder isn't massively large, but does currently have 10 GB mostly random screenshots/gifs, dmgs, half-finished projects (mostly pdf and smaller files)...and yeah...the occacially duplicates I forgot to delete six months ago because they were burried in some sub-sub-folder. Honestly, I usually avoid AI file organizers because I don't want my personal documents being scraped or sent to a cloud server. At this point, I think OpenAi have enough data... I like that it runs locally via Apple Intelligence. That also mean I don't have download another (or same) model again. The developer folder cleaner is also nice, although I tend use other tools for that. Dropped an upvote on Product Hunt! I'd love to grab one of those lifetime licenses to put this to work on my messy setup.
Magic Rename uses apple intelligence. For the Chat AI we use Openai servers but only the file names are sent, as local llms are not good enough for the Chat feature or we need to use a larger model that might not run on all our users mac's. So we have to do this for chat ui. In future it might change.

You say "Magic Rename works locally using Apple Intelligence", but are filenames sent to some 3rd party remote servers? If yes then it's still a privacy concern
How does the magic rename work? Does the AI just scan over my photos or documents and then group them up? What makes this different if I use Claude Cowork to schedule periodically clean up my folder?
Yes Magic Rename locally scans the content of the files and comes up with the rename suggestions. Images are not scanned fully yet. In V3 we will add this.

I was just asking the same question on another cleaning app's post - I couldn't find this information, but does it also find files that can be cleared out from Final Cut Pro libraries? Render and analysis caches - so far no cleanup tool I've tested actually targets them.

I am actually grateful for this app! Appreciate it. Ill get the subscription as soon as I can but the free version sorted out 165 files for me - most of which I ended up deleting - which is great :D

Neat, but sell me on why I would use this over Claude Cowork/Code which I already pay for, and have used for this same use case with great results.
