What AI app do you currently use ?

Lekh AI pro and I'm downloading Osaurus. Needed one ai app fully offline without a license and privacy focused. Lekh was the most comprehensive app available.

Claude api key in BoltAI instead of the sub. Casual use runs me like $3 a month and no hourly limits. App was 40ish bucks one-time. Osaurus is fine for basic stuff but local models get dumb fast past summarizing. Fair warning before you lean on it

Dev here, I use Claude Code almost daily for coding. Which model I use just depends on the purpose, quick stuff versus the harder problems.

I use ChatGPT but have been slowly moving my queries to Siri in macOS 27. I’ve been pleasantly surprised (when it works) and most of the times it’s enough for me

I'm using claude most of the time especially doing projects. For daily chats sometimes I use Chatgpt.

mostly ollama running locally for anything i dont want hitting someone's api. qwen's been solid for basic stuff. slower than claude obviously but for journaling/notes type use it doesnt need to be fast, just needs to stay on my machine

+1 for Claude Code, a few people already said it, but the part nobody mentioned is how much the workflow matters. It runs in the terminal and actually edits files and runs commands, so it's less autocomplete and more "hand it a scoped task and review the diff." The wins come from scoping tightly and reading every change instead of trusting it blindly. Treated that way it's a real multiplier; treated like a magic button it makes a mess.

DeepSeek API + Cumbersome (native macOS / iOS / iPadOS client app) to chat with it. I'd like to give a good shout out to Cumbersome, it's an amazing AI API app that's completely free, and the developer is very active, with updates almost weekly.

You can get surprisingly far with a basic ChatGPT / Claude subscription and it's hard to go wrong with either of them. In fact, as far as I'm concerned, these are the _only_ 2 general purpose AI tools. Once you get into the coding realm, options for tooling open up, but are still dominated by the 2 models. With all due respect to Osaurus, local models don't hold a candle to frontier models (or even larger open weight models), so unless you're running a machine with half a terabyte of VRAM, local models aren't an option for sufficiently complex use cases.

I like Perplexity because it gives sources for everything.

The limits aren't about time, they're about tokens. That's why an hour can burn more than a whole day of short chats. Two things eat them fast. Long conversations resend the entire history every turn, so message 40 costs far more than message 2. And images are expensive, a screenshot can run well over a thousand tokens where the same content as text is a few hundred. Starting a fresh chat whenever you switch topic helps more than anything else.
