Jott — Notes in your Mac's notch

Full contextOriginal content · Reddit

Hi r/macapps, I'm Harsha, an indie developer, and I've been working on Jott. I found myself constantly needing somewhere to quickly capture thoughts, reminders, links, and ideas without opening a full notes app, navigating folders, or managing windows. Existing note-taking apps are incredibly powerful, but for quick capture they often felt heavier than I wanted. So I built Jott. Jott lives directly in your Mac's notch. Press ⌥ + Space, start typing, and your note is automatically saved as you write. Close it and continue whatever you were doing. Problem Most note-taking apps are designed around organizing information after you've written it. My goal was to optimize for the moment before you forget something. Jott focuses on: Instant access from anywhere Automatic saving Minimal UI with no setup required Fast capture without context switching Seamless syncing between Mac, iPhone, and iPad using iCloud Comparison Compared with Apple Notes, Jott is intentionally focused on quick capture rather than notebooks, folders, attachments, formatting, and document management. Compared with Drafts and other power-user note apps, Jott prioritizes simplicity over advanced workflows and automation. The workflow is simple: ⌥ + Space → type → close → done. Pricing 7-day free trial One-time purchase on macOS One-time purchase on iOS No subscriptions App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/jott-before-you-forget/id6768632044 Website: https://jott.harshachaganti.com I'd genuinely appreciate feedback, feature requests, bug reports, or ideas for where Jott should go next.

Well, $13 is a bit expensive imo I mean I could buy antinote in less than that

This looks like a great spin on the menu bar notes app. Excited to give it a try!

u/ImaginationLowOPReply

Yes please, also adding multiple language support and RTL as suggested by u/mn83ar

Neat idea! Your website is pretty neat too. Where do the notes go once you've captured them? And can one search through them?

u/ImaginationLowOPReply

There is a library, you can search em there and in the jott bar as well.

If this is all your app does then at the price Unclutter or SideNotes are far better options Just my honest opinion

I am planning to bring down the price just want to get to know the market better

Interesting way to use the notch. Were you able to do this using Swift?

Cool idea, the mac app would be very useful for meetings notes..

Does this have the swipe to change note feature like antinote? Gladly buy it if it have that features, as for antinote, sometimes app in menubar are hidden when there are a lot of things in menubar

Cool idea but €13 feels kinda rough for a quick capture app ngl 😭

I don't think you can keep "iCloud sync across devices" as part of the paid version. See 4.10 in Apple Review Guidelines.

Nice execution on the plain/rich toggle — that's a hard UX decision to make and you made it cleanly. Curious: does the notch panel stay visible when you switch to another app, or does it close automatically?
