I used Later mostly because it is simple. For me the important thing is quick hide and restore, not another window manager with many rules. Curious what alternatives people suggest here.

Mango does exactly this. save your current window layout and restore it with one click. been using it for a while and it's pretty solid. Mosaic is another option if you want something with more rules and automation built in.

Seems like the post is duplicated. I have commented the same in other post as well: Im the developer of Lattix and I built it to solve the same problem. With the latest update, you can configure apps to open in multiple spaces/desktops. Ive also added the feature to name the spaces and also ultrafast space switching as well.
