[OS] OpenLogi: A native, local-first alternative to Logitech Options+, written in Rust.
I just recently discovered this new FOSS project called OpenLogi that aims to be a fully offline alternative to Logitech Options+. With that massive "expired certificate" fail from Logitech earlier this year that broke their devices world-wide, I looked to see if there were any good third-party alternatives but didn't really find anything too compelling at the time. I was going through my regular "brew update" routine yesterday and saw OpenLogi listed as a new cask. It immediately caught my attention and decided to check it out. Looks to be only a week old but it's under active development and already has 4K stars on GitHub. I gave it a spin on my MX Master 3s and it's already very usable. Only missing an "invert scroll" option for me which I believe is in the works. Looking forward to ditching Options+ soon as that's ready. Thought I'd share and spread awareness on this much needed project. Big fan of the MX Master series but the "always online" dependency just to have a fully functional mouse is wild. Logitech Options+ is one of the most bloated pieces of software you can have running on a Mac. It installs a daemon that constantly polls USB and Bluetooth, phones home regularly, and the menu bar icon cannot be fully hidden even when you disable notifications. A native replacement that handles scroll direction, button mapping and DPI without any of that is the obvious fix. Does OpenLogi handle Logi Bolt receivers as well as Bluetooth, or is it Bluetooth-only? That is the question for anyone still on older Logitech hardware.
100% agreed and yep it supports Logi Bolt receivers and Bluetooth. It does not support the older Logi Unifying receivers. I have an MX Master 3s and it already supports remapping all the buttons and DPI switching but not scroll direction yet. The dev's primary device is the newer MX Master 4 but does also own the 3s, the updates just lag behind a bit. I wouldn't be surprised to see scroll direction working in the next day or two. The project is gaining quite a bit of contributors so updates are coming out fairly quick.
FYI, it only supports the MX Master 4, 3S and 3, MX Anywhere 3, Signature M650 and Ergo M575. I have an MX Vertical so it's a no go for me 😕
The project is only about a week old and most likely the supported devices are what the dev owns personally. I'm confident more devices will be added as more folks continue to contribute to the project. 🤞 edit Just remembered I own an MX Vertical from before switching over to the MX Master 3s. I'll look for it this weekend and see what all info the dev needs to add support for the device.
Does this handle the smoothing ?
From my testing so far, not yet. I was just about to create an "issue" for it on the GitHub to see if they can implement it. The smoothing and the invert scroll are really the only remaining things on my list to make the switch to using this full time.
Also worth mentioning that for those who use BetterTouchTool , it's reached the point where it's possible for BTT to replace Logitech Options+ entirely.

the expired certificate incident earlier this year was genuinely embarrassing for Logitech. a peripheral company requiring an internet connection just to maintain basic button mappings is absurd. been using LinearMouse as a stopgap but it doesn't cover everything. will definitely give this a shot, especially if scroll direction support lands soon.
Logitech's certificate screw-up was the last straw for many people. Is there any repeated prompting or noticeable battery drain with the Input Monitoring entitlement?
Does the Mission Control button work by default? Also, is there the new feature that automatically pairs two devices? Like if I select device 1 on the keyboard, the mouse will automatically follow it.
The "hidden" button near the thumb rest area? Yeah it works but the default is "App Expose" instead of Mission Control. Easy to change though in the app config. I prefer it to use Mission Control as well and App Expose to trigger on hold and slide down.

I have massive issues with thumb wheel. I set scroll left or scroll right but it doesn’t act right.
I was going through the "active issues" on the GitHub repo and saw the thumb wheel scrolling is being actively worked on.
Unfortunately it's not working, when in pairing mode it doesn't recognize my Logitech Lift and MX Keys, even with all the bluetooth options activated.
Currently OpenLogi does not support any keyboards and only the following mice: MX Master 4, 3S and 3, MX Anywhere 3, Signature M650 and Ergo M575 — over a Logi Bolt receiver, direct Bluetooth, or USB. Unifying receivers aren't supported yet. That said, the project is only about a week old so it's very likely to include additional devices at some point.
What does this do differently over something like better mouse?
Mainly that it's free and open-source. Folks are able to contribute to the project if they're interested.
Has anyone with an MX Master 3S been able to customize buttons? I've installed the app, it recognizes my mouse and MX Keys Mini, but upon clicking any of them i just get "lighting" and "device" options. All permissions have been granted. I'm on 26.5.1
First, I would make sure that under Mac Settings > "Login Items & Extensions" that Logi Options+ is disabled. These are the background services that are always running and will interfere with OpenLogi. Next make sure you're using the latest version of OpenLogi (v0.5.3 as of this comment) as the dev is pushing out new updates and bug fixes very frequently. I've seen multiple updates in just 24 hours.

Been waiting for something like this since the Logitech cert expiry meltdown. A mouse driver shouldn't need an account. Tested on my MX Master 3s — picks up instantly, noticeably lighter than Options+. Homebrew cask installs alongside Options+ without conflicts, so you can try it without uninstalling anything first. Only missing invert scroll for me too. Fingers crossed that lands soon. 4K stars in a week says a lot about how fed up people are with mandatory telemetry in hardware tools.
