it's still great. i use it a lot for school projects and it does the job better than capcut (in my opinion)

DaVinci Resolve is probably your best bet — the free version is genuinely free for commercial use, no asterisks, and it's a full professional NLE. Only real catch is it's a big download and needs decent hardware. If your editing needs are lighter, iMovie (which comes with macOS) also allows commercial use and will handle basic cuts with zero fuss.

+1 Davinci Resolve is the gold standard for pro video editing - and it's free. There's a pro version that adds features, but you can get most stuff done with the free version.

I use screen01.app it is like screen studio. Actually I see it from X where people mention recordly. So If someone want to compare both. So far its free. I just a satisfied user so far.

I went back to iMovie recently and was amazed by how easy it is to use, while offering decent features for editing

DaVinci Resolve free is the answer. It's a Hollywood-grade NLE that Blackmagic gives away with no commercial use restriction. The free version has 99% of what creators need — only HDR color, neural engine extras, and a handful of specific effects are paywalled in the Studio version. You can ship paid client work with the free build all day and Blackmagic explicitly allows it. The catch is the learning curve compared to Cap or iMovie. Resolve's UI is tabbed by stage (Cut, Edit, Color, Fairlight, Fusion, Deliver) which feels overkill for short-form work but pays off fast once you get past the first few hours. There's a million tutorials on YouTube. If Resolve feels heavy, OpenShot and Kdenlive are open-source and commercial-OK but the UX is rougher. iMovie weirdly also allows commercial use under Apple's standard EULA, but it caps you at 4K and basic effects. For client work specifically, Resolve free is the no-brainer.
