The following is probably too specific, but maybe you guys can help me find something similar enough I am looking for some app to help me organize my life such that: There will be topics (sports, studying, business) Each "thing" such as "sports" can be broken into "sub-things" such as "strength"/"cardio" infinitely recursively, so "strength" can again be broken to "squat"/"bench" and so on. there is some element of progress, so "squat" can have a "150KG goal" and "120KG achieved so far" there is some notion of "not seeing everything at once unless I zoom in", so I won't see anything deep into business when I am at the top level, and won't see business at all when I am inside "strength". I would like to break down mostly my long term goals this way. daily time management isn't what I'm looking for at the moment.

Have a look at Obsidian. Tons of ways to structure it according to your needs.
Not an app but a system. Btw, I got a warning about making comments about specific apps so I think you won’t get many responses here. Personally, I use a system called PARA where I look at my goals as projects or areas in my life. Projects for goals that are one and done (bahamas trip w wife/husband, make $10k, get certified and licensed, write a book, register my kids in school, get to 150kg, etc) and areas for maintenance type goals (invest in relationship with my wife/husband, level up in my career, raise my kids, maintain my nutrition and sleep, etc) I look at this system in my file manager and my task manager. So when I want to see reference materials or a spreadsheet related to a project/area, it’s in my file manager. When I have an action to do related to my project/area, it’s in my task manager This covers the topics. It kind of covers the sub-things because I use subfolders and subtasks. I have an existing project for a car collision I had, it has a subfolder for the actual collision pictures and videos, a subfolder for the insurance claim docs, a subfolder for the rental car docs, etc. Same with my areas. I have an area folder for my relationship with my little sister, and I keep subfolders for pictures in there, notes in there, text screenshots in there, etc. My money area folder has subfolders in GTD form where I process financial docs, then into different category subfolders such as transactions, transfers, bills, etc. My vehicles area folder has subfolders for each vehicle + a subfolder for insurance, and more subfolders for the purchase of each vehicle and maintenance. This doesn’t really cover the progress element by itself. But in my overall Projects folder, I have subfolders for stages. So I can see projects grouped together by stages. Some projects in a planning/backlog folder, some in a Waiting For Start Date folder, some in a Update As Able folder, some in a In Progress folder, then a Testing and Review folder for projects completed but need to be checked to see if they work. Then they go to my archives once completed. So there’s some element of progress but not really in the way you described. And the only element of progress in my task manager is Not Completed/Completed The element of not seeing deep when you’re high and not seeing everything when you’re deep does play well. Once you have a lot of projects and areas that you’re actually working on, it’s impossible to expand them all on a single screen and see everything. But you can see the most general/aggregated stuff from high up and you can see the deepest stuff from deep inside, but not both at the same time Edit: I reread your post and saw you mentioned long term goals. To address my own long term goals, I keep them as folders in my Projects folder under Backlog and add stuff to it that could come in handy. In PARA, Projects aren’t necessarily supposed to be things you’re not currently working on, but I keep my long term goals separated from PARAs Resources to distinguish between things I’m only interested in and things I really really really want to do in the far future.
