Is Cotabby better than Cotypist free plan?
I'm going to switch at some point, but I'm wondering if it's worth doing it now or if I should wait until Cotabby is out of beta. I was planning on staying under 100 words on Cotypist, but I usually type 200-300 words a day. I'm not sure how 80% of users are…

As of now, NO, I installed and removed it within a few minutes, cotrypist is much refined but price is not justified at all, max I am willing to pay is $10 per year or $30-50 one time like most of us here.
How does it compare to Cotypist currently?
Even with Cotabby being unpolished the auto generation are not even wrong I still get this most of the time. https://i.imgur.com/OFd8H6u.jpeg for me it was unusable to the point that I am back to no regular typing.
Give it a few weeks/months and several CoTypist alternatives will come close. Dev will regret his stubborn pricing.

Cotypist has been discussed heavily on this subreddit. But the subscription price is a joke.
Cotabby would work without recording on fast mode since it skips OCR, but our permissions are just catch all right now. We’ll update this soon! In meantime please try our latest update 0.4.2, we moved cotabby off instruct based completions and it should feel a lot better
thank you so much for the feedback! i would love if you could try our latest version 0.4.2! we know cotabby isn't at cotypist's level yet, but we're working very hard everyday to catch up : )
Hey, would love for you to try our latest update for Cotabby : ) We've added autocorrect and worked on hard on improving latency + quality.
Check out KeyType (free) too.
same for me, cotabby is not yet on par and works as well (sometimes it does not work at all) – however, it does have a way smaller footprint and memory usage.
Well, I assume, no. However, people need to understand; CoTypist took several months to get good. CoTabby and new ones are just a few days or weeks old, it takes time to get polished.
Same here, also I don't know why Cotabby can't work without enabling video/audio recording in settings while Cotypist works fine with it disabled. Even after enabling all the required permissions it was just slow, even in the Fast mode with 3-7 words suggestions.
At the moment there is not such a good alternative, but all alternatives at the moment are free, open source and are developing quickly. Cotypist's insane payment model makes it a niche product. Personally, I would not give so much money per year for a service that uses my personal laptop. I'll wait for one of the alternatives to improve, I have already supported CoTabby with a small amount.
interesting, I was relying on some chrome extensions for autocomplete, and never thought of mac level apps. This is great.
I am using Cotabby now. Not yet, it's still not to my liking.
try keytype https://github.com/johnbean393/KeyType free and better than cotabby rn
Cotabby is making progress. But it still has a long way to go. Text appears slower and suggested text is rarely useful in my experience so far. There is nothing that works close to as well as cotypist yet, and that sucks. My 30 day trial will end with Cotypist soon, and I’m not paying his silly subscription pricing. So I’m rooting for any of the alternatives whether they are paid or free. As long as the price makes sense.
No
I’m actually pretty curious for cotypist works and apps like these, is it using an online/local AI model for the quick completions? And what is the upside of using these apps instead of just going STT ?
I had some problems with the Cotabby, so I decided to make an app that would work better on my MacBook. I'm getting positive results, if you want to try it. The name is Sombra and it's working very well for me right now. It's open source, totally free, and runs locally. I also implemented OCR to provide context, but activation is optional.
No
I tried both CoTabby and KeyTab but couldn't get any of them to work sadly even after multiple tries and re-downloads so I ended up giving up..
I've just released an opensource cotipyst app like the shadowtype.app with some nice features. Here are the details: https://shadowtype.app/
