One solution: go back to a previous version; https://google-drive.en.uptodown.com/mac/versions
Archive the installer in case things go wrong again etc.
Another solution: uninstall the Google Drive completely (use PearCleaner for example) and make a PWA for Google Drive with for example Brave browser.

Thank you, I did not know about that website for getting earlier versions of apps. I will try that!

Ugh. Attempting to install an earlier version didn't work either.
Thank you for your time and your help, though!

Infrequent self-promotion is permitted; however, it is not permitted more than once per developer in 30 days. This is counted from the last app post, even if it was removed.
For well-established, recognized devs with an app-flair, once per app per 30 days.
Always disclose your relationship to your software in comments promoting your app. Promoting your own app in comments is disallowed until you earn 10 karma in r/MacApps and in poor taste when hijacking another developer’s promotion.

Haha, another negative vote on a reality.
I love it!
It seems we're not allowed to give advice here...
