Split tunneling and auto start are what you want to look for, I use proton VPN and you turn on split tunneling (for reddit app only, you can choose which apps get the vpn) and auto start and it works flawless

A lot of VPNs have quick tiles, that's how I quickly and easily turn my VPN on and off.

Is this a work/public thing or from your home? There are free ways to run a VPN from your home to bypass restrictions. I have an Asus router that can run WireGuard which also give me access to my homes DNS as blocker. And this is all free.
