I'm living in an apartment with water that tastes straight from a swimming pool. I'm looking for a countertop RO system that uses generic filters, because I can't drill holes in my apartment sink and really don't wanna deal with proprietary filters. Unfortunately from quick research, it sounds like I'm looking for a unicorn. Does such a thing possibly exist? Alternatively... if there's an undersink RO system with a built-in faucet (basically, just open the cabinet, swing it out, and dispense...), that would be cool too! Though this sounds just as rare...

May be AliExpress although at this point you are better of making a freestanding wooden frame and mounting a standard setup on it
Won't those setups still need the parts to hold and pipe the filters together? What makes this anymore practical/durable than a countertop/undersink system?
if you can swing the cabinet door open you can just put a normal undersink system in there without drilling and pull the faucet out when you need it, i did this in my last place and worked fine
For apartment you can get two types of filters, which requires no professional installation — desktop system with internal water tank, which you have to refill manually, or filter which can be hooked up to regular faucet, like APEC RO-CTOP. No generic filters for both types though...
