I use Memos - it's pretty basic but does the job.
What is it called?
haven't named it yet... I just couldn't be bothered looking for one with the features I wanted. I might stick it up as a open source project.
Thank you, that looks perfect!!
Journiv
+1 for memos!
Have a look at Memos: https://usememos.com/
There are several options, with different approaches : obsidian, logseq, Joplin,Trilium… It is worth trying several to find the one that fits you way of journaling They also offer different self hosting setups. Syncing across devices is not always convenient or free
I'm currently writing my own
I've never used it, but this is the only diary option from the Awesome Selfhosting list on Github: https://github.com/PhiTux/DailyTxT On the face of it, this looks good and by virtue of even by having a built-in calendar function it's definitely a more functional diary option than the myriad of note-taking apps that have been suggested. (If I were going to use this, the only "issue" I'd see for myself is it's a mobile-responsive web app with no native mobile apps. Not the end of the world, but I do prefer having dedicated apps. YMMV.)
You could use Obsidian with automatic daily notes module/plugin and sync. The sync I did was with Obsidian lifesync: https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/s/HLMyX9yvKp
If you just want to write every day, any notes software will do. A true journaling app on the scale of Day One or even apple journal just doesn’t exist imo
