That’s a fair point. It should probably have some concept of pre-existing pantry staples like seasonings and oils. As for the main ingredients, I often buy with an idea that it can be used in different meals or easily swapped around depending on what I feel like cooking. What I like about the author’s idea is that the receipt tells you the exact quantities, not just the ingredients.

I like where you’re going, but this seems counterintuitive. Why would somebody buy random ingredients without knowing what they’re gonna use them for? And what if they don’t buy all of the ingredients for a recipe on one grocery trip? Presumably the suggestion will be based on what’s on the receipt, but maybe they already have half the ingredients they would otherwise need at home.
