Hello, I’m currently 22 and am from a rainier area, and am looking to buy a sports car. For background I can spend up to 70k, but it would be great if it was cheaper too as gas is crazy expensive and all nowadays. I want to ideally have maximum speed, acceleration, and handling for the price, as well as being able to drive around town or go to the track comfortably. I also have a Prius so commuting isn’t a problem, but it should be semi reliable. The cars I’m looking into are first gen r35 gtr, b6 or b7 rs4, new Audi rs3, or c6 corvette. I don’t mind if it’s manual or auto, and I’m hoping to tune and mod the car too. I’m also a pretty safe driver so idk if rwd would be bad especially in my area, but I’m fine learning it if I have to. If anyone would be able to share their experience with any of these cars, or any other recommendations or advice I would really appreciate it.

I love how the evora looks and want to drive one but I’ve heard the clutch is unreliable. Also there are none within a 100 miles lol.
Seems like great cars but I test drove a Mustang and it felt bulky. I have to try the Camaro though.
That’s what I was kind of planning to do. My budget is technically 80k but thought buying the car cheaper would be better for the future.
I’ve heard gtr maintenance is crazy for older models nowadays too otherwise I would get one 100 percent. I feel like rs3 is a good compromise but it’s the most expensive and there seem to be better options out there.
Just get an m240i. You will thank me later. Such an all around amazing vehicle.
100% I get alot of used sports cars i’m 26 now buy it from a reliable source if you can go in person to check it out go in person(Last car had it shipped to me like across the country) you always buy a car twice with maintenance but my favorite car was the f type look into it!
Do you think it’s worth over an rs3 or even a first gen m2? Seems heavy though awd looks nice
The rs3 is certainly a respectable rival. I have a bunch of buddies with both, mostly very modified. The RS3 does seem considerably more expensive to own. Not sure what your power goals are but the m240 is far more capable power wise without trans or bottom end upgrades. I’d drive both back to back and see what you think. Either is great.
Honestly I don’t like how the c5 looks lol and c6 was my dream car growing up. It also seems safer since it’s newer and has a better engine which is why I prefer it. I’m not too familiar with owning a corvette though. Do they drive similarly? What about maintenance costs on both?
I’m not trying to seriously track it, maybe once in a while during the summer. Ideally I want something fast for the street that’s fun, and I could drive year round. Never thought of the gr86 but I could see how it can be fun. The highest hp car I’ve driven was a gtr once and it seemed manageable even when I floored it but idk if that’s a good metric. Lots to think about. Appreciate the rec.
That is true. I’m not really trying to daily it and I’m still on my parents insurance haha so I’ve got to check. But when I do get my own I’m gonna try to go with hagerty or something. I’ve looked at the Lexus rcf and used to want one but after driving it feels like a Mustang and I could get a Mustang for a lot cheaper.
That’s true I’m just not tryna get something that gets 10 mpg. Also by your definition I’m looking for something that is fast and overall fun not a track weapon or anything. Can I ask why you liked the m2 better? BMW has been recommended a lot and I am considering it. Also my max is 70k but I’m fine spending anywhere in between if it checks everything for me and would want it to be lower if possible.
You should also test drive an Emira. Surprisingly great handling in rain, even on summer tires. Doesn’t meet your acceleration requirement, but more than makes up for it in looks.
I saw an emira the other day in that dark verdant green and it was absolutely beautiful. However I don’t think it fits in his budget, cheapest I can see are still $90k. An Evora is definitely in his budget though

i would say shop for a sports car that’s 50k or less so you have room to fix anything or cover any future problems

If you want to seriously track the car, this is wrong subreddit. Post in car track days instead. If you want to maximize learning, a fast car will slow down your learning process, they would also cost more in consumables, incidentals, track insurance etc which might demotivate you from doing more track days. Something like GR86 and Miata are fun on the road as well, just different kind than more powerful cars, they make you work for fun that can be rewarding to certain people. Out of your choice, I would go Corvette. If you want something similar powerful, previous gen 2 series with b58 would be good choice.
if you have 70k for a toy gas prices should not be a concern. 70k has alot of options, just depends on what you want. i will say horsepower and 1/4 mile stuff gets old quick. all the awd cars you mentioned don't drive like a typical sports car and will mask all you mistakes. c6 vette is the only real sports car mentioned here. do you want a sporty coupe with compromises built in? then go with an f87 m2 comp, they are in the mid to high 50s for a nice one. its rwd, can be tuned, has pretty goods steering, and tons of performance. i liked it more than my r35. if you want a true sports car then get an emira or cayman with a flat 6.
Ill one up your C6 with a C5Z. Its the perfect reliable, inexpensive, fun car.

gtr is the obvious choice here if you can find one clean in your budget. the launch is somethin else and it puts power down way better in rain than the others. corvette would be fun but in wet weather you gonna be babysitting the throttle all the time if you go rs3 just get the new one, older audis with that v8 are cool but the maintenance gonna eat you alive

If you’re looking to get into aftermarket and tuning, a mustang gt or Camaro SS is a good place to start.
Have you got insurance quotes for these vehicles? Your age alone automatically makes you a high risk driver but some of the vehicles you listed are not good options as a daily driver. Have you thought about a F type Lexus? LC, RC, LS, RS, ? The reliability as a daily driver with efficiency in both performance/luxury and the resale value always commands top dollar
