dealing with a bunch of raw quickbooks dumps right now on a couple $2m tuck-ins. getting the red flags like customer concentration out of the way on day 1 is easy enough, but when you actually have to map their chaotic chart of accounts into a clean p&l... how are you guys not going insane? is everyone just manually mapping every weird "other expense" and "ask my accountant" line in excel to rebuild ebitda, or do you have a standard template that auto-buckets this garbage? staring at 24 months of bad bookkeeping and looking for a sanity-saving trick.

appreciate the insight! yeah, AI-assisted categorization is definitely the only way to avoid losing your mind on these exports. building an internal prototype right now to tackle this exact mapping flow, but good to know you guys are working in this space. will keep GLAD Studio in mind if we need extra dev bandwidth down the road.

uhh... by accounting expenses and revenues as they come in? there is no trick or hack. kicking the can down the road has consequences

you know what AI is really good at? Sorting and parsing data...

I run a small software and automation agency, so I've spent more hours than I'd like on this kind of work. You can stop mapping transactions constantly if you do map the chart of accounts once and for all. Export the full list of active accounts, then build a simple mapping table that buckets each account by its account type and number range, because the account names are the unreliable part. AI can also do the sorting, but I like deterministic logic so I never have errors. Automations with AI can also classify lines as "other expense" lines or "ask my accountant" categories so you recieve a digest or premade mail to send to your accountant. There are definitly ways to reduce the mental load and time waste on this !
