Hi everyone, Part of me is here to complain and part of me is here to be told how dumb I am. I don't really know how much detail I will add about the PC build itself just because any part of the process could have been where I messed up. Going into 2026, I bought a bunch of parts so that my friend and I could build a pc. I trusted this person because they built their own PC that they're always playing on. So when I expressed interest in building a PC, they were down to help me try and build it. They gave me a list of parts they thought I should buy and I did so. I know nothing about building PCs but I think I also liked the idea of us having this one thing for us to bond over. Now the PC is built and everything is physically put together. But whenever I turn the PC on it either Crashes Gives me a continuous loop of "your device ran into a problem and needs to restart." Nothing in the advanced options given helps. Everything just comes back saying that the process couldn't be completed and nothing was changed. I really do want to get this PC up and running. I spent all the money and I I do have games I could be playing. But since I was a genius and bought whatever it was that he said, I don't know what to do. Do I completely take everything apart and try to find a way to put things back together? I guess I also feel dumb trusting this person and now whenever I try to get them to help me figure things out there's always some issue and nothing works out with scheduling. Can you give a little more information on the parts that you used?
Hi thanks for replying. Here's the list of what I bought. I don't have an issue getting into the BIOS and I can see all the computer information. But I don't see any lights on the motherboard. Nothing looks like it has lights besides the RBG lights on some of the parts. Hi, it did work while he was here at one point, but I could only use it for a couple of hours before it would crash. Now the crashes are so frequent I guess that the PC doesn't even have a chance to really turn on before I get a notice that it didn't start properly. I bought the parts on Amazon and Newegg but I have to check about the return window. I don't think anything would be within that timeframe since everything was bought months ago.

So it is possible an update or a corrupted update could be causing this... Do you know how to do a full fresh Windows install?
Hi, it's Windows 11 and I don't remember him using a thermal paste.
That's simple then. Reinstall windows. You get boot (getting into the BIOS), that's the hard part, your windows must be corrupted. Just try to reinstall windows.
Tell us exactly what you bought.
The significant writer commenter explained it best with telling you about the clean windows install. Having a shop do it would be easiest. I think your hardware is fine
There's no reason to make fun of you. You never built a computer before. Anyone who does make fun of you are ignorant dickwads That being said, to help you out, we need more info but for now, ill try to give you some troubleshooting tips that'll help us atleast figure out if its a software or hardware issue. When you try starting the pc, are you able to get into the BIOS? This is done by pressing one of these keys: F2, F10, F12, DEL Spamming all of those keys are also fine. Let us know if that gets you into a screen that shows your computer info, and if anything is weird while doing so. After that we can help you further. The only other useful info in this point of the process would be if while its in a continuous boot loop, what lights are showing up on your motherboard? (This is the main flat square in your computer that all the other computer parts are plugged into, the lights are normally on the right side, near the top a little. They'll be labeled something like: CPU, MEM (or) DRAM, VGA (or) GPU, BOOT (or) BOOT_DEVICE It's normal for the computer to go through these lights on start up and during something called memory training. But, if one of those lights are staying on and not turning off or rotating to others, thats indicative of an issue. If you know your parts, and list them here, that could also help, but this doesn't sound like an issue outside of the realm of normal problems with a PC build. It could be a problematic CPU, motherboard, underpowered power supply, bad ram, etc. Many things could cause this issue that wouldn't directly be the fault of your friends recommendations.
I’m not going to make fun of you. Something like this happening was my greatest fear when building my computer because troubleshooting software and firmware is my achilles heel. It’s not your fault. It probably isn’t your friend’s fault, either. Things like this sometimes happen because computers are complex and scheduling conflicts also happen because life is complex. I do think that you should learn to work the problem yourself and not have to rely on someone else. The first thing is to get diagnostic information. You can’t troubleshoot a solution without knowing what the problem is. Most motherboards display codes, called POST codes, when they start up. They usually display these codes on a tiny seven-segment display, like a digital clock display, which is on one of the motherboard’s corners. Some motherboards sound the codes as beep codes. Sometimes you need to buy a cheap, tiny diagnostic speaker and plug it in to hear these codes. Your motherboard has a manual, (probably online where you can’t misplace or throw it away,) that will tell you what the POST codes mean. You need to find this, either through a QR code on the motherboard’s box or by doing an internet search with your motherboard’s manufacturer and (ideally) make and model. If you have the tables saying what each code does on your phone or tablet or printed out, then you can see how far into the boot process your computer is getting before it restarts during one of these loops. If you know that, then the internet can be much more helpful in advising what to do next. There are many things that could be going wrong. So many that enumerating all of them would just be overwhelming and unhelpful. If you are having trouble getting this far, to be able to give you more help, we need to know what manufacturer made your motherboard. Every manufacturer is a little different in how they handle POST codes.
Did it ever boot and work whilst he was there? How many parts are still within the return window? Where did you purchase your parts from? A repair shop can help you diagnose a fault, it may cost you though.
The 14th gen intel chips can be wily I’m guessing you need a BIOS update or a clean operating system install, or both What operating system did you install, you did install an OS right?
Did you guys use thermal paste or the thermal pads?? What version of Windows you install?
