So I recently got a 5080. I am still on the am4 motherboard and my cpu is the Ryzen 7 5800. I am noticing a lot of bottlenecking at 1440p. I don’t want to spend 1k+ to upgrade to am5. What is a good new cpu for am4 to completely eliminate all bottlenecking on my 5080? Is there any or will I always bottleneck unless I upgrade to am5?

Man i feel so bad when a year ago a 9800x3d, a b650 board and 32gb of ram was 599.99 at microcenter. Oof.
These are 1920x1080 benchmarks. You could've easily linked the next section in the same review about 2560x1440 benchmarks, where the 5800X3D is shown to be 91.7% the performance of the 9800X3D on average!
I did just upgrade my 5800X3D to a 7800x3D last weekend . I have a 9070XT gpu the upgrade was really incredible in many games. I did try a few games like hogwarts legacy , monster hunter wilds , dragon dogma 2 . The frame pacing is a lot better . I had many stutters with those games and now it's so smooth .
Exactly. Funny how i get downvoted in other posts when i mention this. The uplift is very noticeable to me with some games or when using upscaling. I'm pretty sensitive to spikey frame pacing.

Depending on the game the 9800X3D sees anywhere from a 150% to a 230% uplift in DCPS.
Just overclock your CPU a bit and enjoy the 5080. The difference to a 9800x3d isn't going to be that big and 100% not worth the amount spent. Might be worthwhile if ram prices come back to earth in a few years.

Render resolution has no effect whatsoever on CPU draw rates. A 5800X will still be capped to the exact same capability as 1080p if you were to play a game at 4k. The 4090 is also starting to age quite a bit, CS2 is still partially GPU bound on CS2 at 1080p. Most other games in the list are even more graphically demanding, and lower resolutions only reduce overall effectiveness because of its mediocre MRT capability.
5800x3d But probably won’t eliminate “all bottlenecking”, especially in cpu bound situations 5080 should really be paired with an AM5 x3d chip in anything other than 4k

Unless you can get your hands on a 5800X3D you'll need to upgrade to AM5 with a 9700X at the very least. I would even suggest that with such a beefy GPU i'd go for a X3D model. Right now you're heavily bottlenecked.
The best AM4 gaming CPU is a 5800X3D, but that won't fully eliminate the CPU bottleneck at that resolution for many AAA games.
You don't have to pay 1000$. Sell your Am4 and buy used parts
You have a micro center near you? Their AMD bundles are really good. 7800x3d, 32gb ddr 5 ram and a mobo for $750.
See if you can get a 5700x3d or a 5800x3d for a reasonable price. It should soften the CPU bottleneck a lot.
Using a 5600X with my 5080, but I'm playing on 4K, so the bottleneck is pretty nil.
I got my 9850x3d, Asus TUF B850-E, and Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5-6000 32G from Microcenter for $699.
9800x3d or 7800x3d. That's really your only answer. I moved from a 5800x3d/5080 to 9800x3d/5080 specifically because of CPU bottleneck, at 1440p Ultrawide.
I had a ryzen 7600x paired with a RTX 5080, thought it was more than enough, but several stutters were still happening in games like Diablo IV, Borderlands 4 and AOE IV (maybe a four thing? lol). Just upgraded to Ryzen 9800x3d this week and I can tell you, it was day and night in terms of stable frametime. Do not overestimate CPU.
Not even the 5800X3D will uphold the 5080's capability at 1440p, and it's a shame there is no 5950X3D. You either move on to AM5 or buy some LGA1700 set with a DDR4 compatible memory controller.
Friend, in some games even if Reddit “professors” tell you that the 5080 will bottleneck and you should “wait for next gen, get Intel Nova Lake in December or Zen 6 when it comes out” the truth is that even with a 9800X3D at 1440p, some titles will still show limits.
