Hi! I started getting into skincare about a year ago and I’ve developed the following routine: Morning: Cerave hydrating facial cleanser Salicylic Acid Serum (la roche posay) The ordinary azelaic acid cream Youth to the People superfood airwhip moisturizer Night: Youth to the people superfood cleanser The ordinary azelaic acid cream Cerave PM facial moisturizer I know I don’t use a ton, but I was worried that more products would be worse for my skin. I used to break out a TON all over my face, but right now my skin is clearer than it’s ever been before. I think the salicylic acid is what reduced break outs the most, but I’m not 100% sure on that. The only problem is I still tend to break out (not as severely) every month just before my period. It’s mostly my forehead, but sometimes my cheeks as well. I think my skin is on the oily side, but it could be combination. Basically, my question is, is there anything I can do to stop breakouts that seem to be tied to hormones? Or is a reduction in severity the best I should hope for?

Yeah unfortunately birth control isn’t really a solution for me right now. I’ll make sure to look into retinoids though! Until now I kinda just thought they were for wrinkles but I clearly haven’t done enough research haha
Taking hormones aka birth control but that’s probably not what you are looking for. You could also try to add retinoids to your routine in the evenings.
