I run multiple businesses with my father. We need a new office PC and we’re looking to integrate local ai into our workflow. We are by no means experts in ai and are mainly looking into it for fun and if we can figure out good workflow that’s a bonus. 90% of the build is common productivity matters. We don’t run any forms of software like cad, adobe no video editing or blender types. Just need an all around productivity machine with beginner local ai capabilities. ⁠looking to spend $800-$2000. I understand the gpu is the big money question for ai so a non ai build price and ai build price would be appreciated. • in America • ⁠don’t need peripherals.

It depends on whether or not your really use the cutting edge features. I use Gemma 31B on a 3090 and it works well, even with vision and thinking. It can go toe to toe with the lower end versions of Claude and ChatGPT but won't compare for deep research, plugins, and other cutting edge features.

locall automation is very specific, pay for Claude, figure out what's worth automating, 2k is childs money for running your own ai

Look for secondhand cards like the RTX A4500, Instinct Mi50/60/100 and basic AI is possible. Note that getting AI as powerful and responsive as a Claude or ChatGPT will cost you a factor 10 of your budget.

Really depends on what exactly you mean by local AI. Running an agent framework like OpenClaw with a commercial frontier model like Claude, for example, doesn't require much at all. Running LLMs locally, OTOH, requires tons of RAM (which is currently very expensive) and it will still be inferior to the frontier models. For most people it's not worth the expense. It's something interesting to play around with, but don't expect getting good results for actual production use.
