Hello all! As the title states, I’m looking to upgrade my PC that my dad built for me when I was younger. Problem is, I know next to nothing about building a PC. I recently started playing clair obscur: expedition 33 as it’s a game I’ve been wanting to try for a while, even if it isn’t the typical kind of game I play. Another problem, the game was super slow and not all that smooth running on my PC but my partner has an Xbox and he ran the game on there and it looked WAY better than what I had on my PC and it left me wanting more. (Even considered getting a console for a bit if I’m honest) I’ve heard it’s a terrible time to go buying parts for a PC but I’m willing to shell out some money for it. So with that, here’s a question. I primarily want my games to run smoothly and graphics to look nice, I also want a lot of storage. What are some parts to look into when I’m trying to upgrade my pc to match my wants? I’m looking into budget friendly options but also not opposed to higher end options as I can save money to buy the parts too. My specs in speccy say I have: Operating system: Windows 11 Home 64-Bit CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 /Pinnacle Ridge 12nm Technology Ram: 32.0GB Dual-Channel DDR4 @ 1064MHz Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC. If you could find what parts you currently have and write it into the post that would be helpful. Depends on how old your current system is, for example AMD Intel boards have different generations, let's say your motherboard is AM4 and your cpu is AM4, then you can't just upgrade your cpu, you might have to upgrade your motherboard as well as your ram.
Sorry about that, I was hoping it would let me post a picture but I couldn’t figure it out haha. As you can see, I’m not very good at this. I’ve updated my post with all my specs from speccy. As far as I know, I believe I actually do have an AM4

So could I get away with just upgrading the guy if it’s compatible with my motherboard and not have to upgrade anything else or would I have to upgrade other things in my pc
Yes I believe so! Check out which GPUs won't bottleneck your cpu too much. I think you can look at amd 7600 or rtx 4060. Maybe 7700xt as well, but depends if you have a 1440p monitor. Gpu can't do anything if you have a lower resolution monitor. And few years down the line you can directly look at upgrading to AM6 or whatever is latest.
I believe you can look at upgrading the GPU, check what GPU would be a good combo for your current CPU. I believe you can use modern GPUs like (AMD 9060XT, 5060ti etc) that use pcie gen 5 as well, your motherboard currently probably has gen 4, but pcie lanes on motherboard are backwards and forward compatible. You can get an NVME SSD if there are additional slots on the motherboard, you can get a gen 4 for this as well. But I would suggest researching a bit more about your parts. Plug it in claude or chatgpt and ask questions and then google a bit.
