You can run CrystalDiskInfo and check the Total Write Amount and Power On Time to determine remaining life left. Generally speaking 1TB NVME you would expect somewhere of 600TB Writes.
I have. The eBay seller did specify the current drive wear and when I checked it was as described. Definitely cheaper.
Grab a few 1tb spinning rust drives and do a raid 0 setup. If you have the ports free, a 4 unit drive can hit speeds similar to a devent sata ssd, and thats good enough for most people. Raid 0 failure possibility doesnt really matter if it's don critical data. Check thrift stores for some old direct tv boxes, 5-10 bucks for a 1 tb drive
I would recommend going second hand. I just asked the Facebook seller to show me the CrystalDiskInfo before I got it.
