Stuck between 2019 Hyundai Accent 20k miles and 2013 Prius 150k miles

The title explains it well. I have a daily 80 mile round trip commute 5 days a week. I have got to get out of my beater... My choice is a very lightly used 1 owner 2019 Accent. Theyre a family friend so I can get it easy. But the more I read its looking like a Prius, even an older late 00s-early 10s model might still be the better buy if I take care of it. What do you think? Get the lower mileage newer car? Edit: I also found a 2009 Prius with replaced hybrid battery (2022) for $4000. 240k miles though

Definitely going against the grain of the subreddit, but I vote Hyundai. The 1.6 Gamma isn't a horrible engines, most of Hyundai/Kias were with the Theta, not Gamma engines. These did have some oil consumption issues if they weren't maintained, but otherwise was not too bad. 3rd gen Toyota Prius isn't a great car tbh, it has oil consumption and head gasket issues. That being said, I think you can do better than these two cars. Maybe look at a 2nd gen Prius with good battery health?

Look for a third option. Can your budget stretch to a 2016+ Prius?

The Prius and it's not close. 80 miles a day in an Accent is going to get old fast, the seat comfort and road noise on those are punishing for long commutes. Plus you'll save a couple grand a year on gas with the Prius, which will pay for any maintenance it needs many times over.

80 miles/day? Prius, assuming it has a clean history and passes a PPI. I'd take a well-maintained 150k Prius over an Accent for that commute.
