Is upgrading my CPU worth sticking to AM4, or should I jump to AM5?
Hi everyone, I’m currently considering upgrading my CPU, but given that top AM4 chips (like the 5700X3D/5800X3D) are out of production and inflated in price, I’m wondering if an AM4 upgrade is still worth the cost or if I'm better off holding out for a full…
Hi everyone, I’m currently considering upgrading my CPU, but given that top AM4 chips (like the 5700X3D/5800X3D) are out of production and inflated in price, I’m wondering if an AM4 upgrade is still worth the cost or if I'm better off holding out for a full AM5 upgrade. I would also appreciate if anyone could explain to me how to predict the performance boost that buying a certain CPU would bring, in order to become autonomous with this kind of task. My specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G GPU: INNO3D RTX 3070 Ti Motherboard: ASUS TUF B450-PLUS II RAM: 16 GB DDR4 Playing at 1440p. Thanks!

For gaming, look at the 5500X3D from AliExpress.
OP has a 5600G, which is similar in performance to the 5500.
It won't help much. I went from i5 8400 to 5700x with 3060 12gb, I'm comfy at 1440p 60fps, and I'm gpu bound. Anything over 60fps is a no. Logical up would be 4070TI or similar, but you're in disadvantage since both cpu and gpu is in lows, and I don't know what cpu you have. But, 5700x, 5700x3d/5800x3d would get that compute in better fps numbers, atleest at 1440p at 120fps.
I have 5600g, 1660 super, 16gb ram 3200mhz, 550w I play mostly fps games (valorant, cs2)
If you're already on the 5000-series AM4 CPUs it's not really worth upgrading unless you're going from the 5500.
They re-released the 5800x3D, and even that and a 32 gb DDR4 kit is going to be cheaper than AM5 right now. Check out your local retailers.
Don't waste your money as you will see very little difference at 1440p unless you are playing very CPU bound game like Tarkov. You will see a much better improvement buying a new GPU instead. Take what you would have spend on the CPU and combine it with selling your current GPU.
At 1440p with a 3070 Ti I'd probably stay on AM4 and go for a 5700X3D if you can find one at a reasonable price Only jump to AM5 if you're planning a bigger upgrade in the near future
You’ll need a motherboard upgrade to something with 10 power phase designed board as well.
Go up to a 5500x3D, it'll be a significant upgrade in many games and you can go up to AM5 in the future.
You have a 5600G CPU, which already has a cut down L3 cache. Simply going to a 5600X CPU will be an improvement considering you have a RTX 3070Ti. A complete upgrade would be nice, but you get limited improvement with that GPU. You can only throw so much CPU at it before you become GPU limited. For you, a 5800X3D or 5700X3D would be ideal, but a 5500X3D is also a good option.
I'm in the same boat thinking about getting 5700x, currently have 1660 super I mostly play competitive games tho Thinking about getting used 3060 ti or similar I think 5700x3d/5800x3d good upgrade depends what you play, or 5700x
5700x, 5800 are capable for 1440p 120fps, x3d versions have about 20% higher fps count, but are far better in low fps numbers, which is very much nice to have. Personally, I just went to 5700x and I'm sticking to 1440p. If, and only IF you want 4k gaming, am5 and ddr5 tax does have rational argument, since games kinda do need more than 16gb of ram.
Your CPU is completely fine
