Hi all! F27 from Australia (relevance being products available here). For the past year or more I’ve had this monstrosity on my right cheek. It sometimes gets itchy but it’s sore if I touch or scratch it. Three times recently when I’ve wiped off my makeup in that area it has started bleeding and I’ve tried to drain it and so much blood comes out. It’s not a pimple and after the first time I tried to drain it, it had deflated and I thought I got rid of it but alas it returned a couple weeks later. What on earth is it??? Not asking for medical advice just wondering if anyone else has had similar and what their experiences were. I use LaRoche Posay effaclar as a cleanser once at night. I was prescribed a topical gel but that did nothing (I believe it was Acnetac). I’ve tried the LRP acne duo and I have also tried the Bioderma cleanser and the Benzac foam cleanser and also the 5% wash. It’s making me feel so insecure. In general I tend to have acne but nothing like this elsewhere on my face. I was fortunate enough not to have acne as a teenager but it has hit me like a freight train in my mid to late 20’s. I wear makeup everyday but I always moisturise, cleanse at night, make sure my brushes are clean, etc. Definitely not a hygiene issue. I’m not on the pill and I don’t want to take it so that’s also not an option. I’m going to see a dermatologist for the first time in a few weeks but am worried about being dismissed or given things I’ve already tried and given a dermatologist is pretty expensive I want to make sure it’s not a wasted appointment. After any experiences with the same and what worked/didn’t work for you!

You really should go see a doctor for this because you mention it can get itchy and it can bleed. These are both signs of something that is not typical of regular acne. Acne could have triggered it though. But you could have a possible infection that won't get better without prescription medications. Also, it looks like you have some scaring going on. That could be permanent if you don't get it taken care of as soon as possible. After you've healed that skin problem, then come back and ask for some advice on cleansers and other skincare to use to help control the acne or clogged pores.
