To add to these suggestions: while digiKam is feature-rich, it is optimized for photography, making video playback somewhat sluggish. Also, Daminion's free version caps around 15,000 items, which raw documentary footage will eat up quickly. If you do not mind a $30 one-time license, Eagle is fantastic for video with full offline support and hover-scrubbing, though it copies files into its own library structure. If you need strictly FOSS and prefer managing massive volumes via tags over folders, Hydrus Network is a powerhouse, but it comes with a steep learning curve.
