Onirica: generate and edit images with AI, locally

完整上下文原始内容 · Reddit

Hi everyone, I want to share with you my app, Onirica: it lets you generate, edit, restore images fully offline on your Apple Silicon Mac (one-time $12.99) Problem Most AI image tools need a subscription and send your prompts and photos to a cloud server. I wanted something private and one-time-purchase, so I built Onirica: a native Mac app that generates, edits and restores images with a full AI model that runs entirely on your Mac. No account, no internet needed after the first launch, nothing collected. Comparison Vs Midjourney / DALL-E: those are subscription-based and cloud-processed, so you're paying monthly and your prompts/images go through their servers. Onirica runs the full model locally, works offline, and it's a single purchase. Vs Draw Things (also on-device, free): great tool, but built for people comfortable tuning models, samplers and checkpoints. Onirica is built for people who just want to type a prompt or a plain-language edit and get a result, generate/edit in one simple flow. Pricing $12.99 one time. https://apps.apple.com/app/onirica/id6766208316 Website: getonirica.com/ Requirements Apple Silicon (M1+) and macOS 26+. Peak memory usage during image generation will be about 4/5 GB. About 16 GB of disk space for installation. Happy to answer to any doubt, and any feedback or suggestions is appreciated! Thanks :)

Is the app really over 15 GB in download size as depicted in AppStore? Is a LLM being bundled with the app?

u/parolaccia_楼主回复

The app itself is not 15 gb, but the download includes also the AI model as an asset, which is why the total dimension will be around 15 gb. It's quite similar to when you download videogames, basically.

Running fully offline is a good idea. I’d mention the roughly 15 GB model download in the post/website, since that could surprise to people that download this. It would also be helpful to show expected generation times on something like an M1 with 8 GB RAM will take much longer then a new M5. Does updating the model require downloading the entire 15 GB again?

Thank you for the comment. It's the first time I'm sharing this app, so I could communicate it better, for sure. And comments like this help a lot. For your question, if I release a functional update to the app itself, like exporting images in other formats, there won't be another 15 gb download. If I change the image model itself, then the new model will be downloaded to replace the old one. I hope it's clear enough!

Looks interesting. Is there a trial version that we could use before paying for the app?

u/parolaccia_楼主回复

Thanks! Unfortunately, there's no way to do it in the App Store.

Great work on this. Thanks and love to try this one out for sure.

Thanks, let me know what you think! And if you like it, a review will be much appreciated :)

Looks Interesting. What would you say is the main difference between Onirica and ex. Draw things?

u/parolaccia_楼主回复

Good question. I think Draw Things is excellent, and probably the most powerful option out there if you want deep control: LoRA training, ControlNet, custom models, scripting. The tradeoff is that power comes with a learning curve. Even people who like it describe it as intimidating at first, there's a lot of settings to understand, models to find and manage separately, and the general advice is not to touch things you don't understand yet. It's a power user tool first. Onirica is the opposite bet. Open it, type what you want, get an image. No model picking, no settings to learn first, editing and restoring photos work the same simple way as generating. If you want a deep toolbox, Draw Things is great and free. If you want something that just works with zero setup, that's what I built Onirica for.

I see in the comments the download size is 15GB (mainly the model), my question is, how does it run on machines with 8/12/16 gb of ram? I'm just asking because if the model is that big, loading it should cause swapping on machines that size, no? at what memory amount is swapping not an issue? either way, neat app, looks very interesting!

u/parolaccia_楼主回复

Thank you! The model is not loaded in ram all at once, but it first loads the part that decodes the prompt, and then the part that generates the actual image. That's why it can run also on 8 GB macs, even though it'd be better to close most of other apps in that case. I've tried it on my M1 Macbook Air with 8 GB (which is basically the worst mac you can run it on) and the generation of one image took around 4 minutes. On my M4 Mac Mini with 16 GB it takes about one minute.

Intriguing! Can I put the LLM anywhere I want? Like on an external disk? Is an M4 with 24GB RAM powerful enough?

u/parolaccia_楼主回复

Thank you! Unfortunately I don't think so, since the model is managed via Apple Background Assets, so it's basically downloaded from Apple's servers to a sandboxed container on the internal disk. There's no option in that framework to point it at an external volume. Sure! I comfortably run it on my M4 Mac Mini with 16 GB, it takes around 1 minute to generate each image.

u/parolaccia_楼主回复

Thanks. I've been able to run it on a M1 Macbook Air with 8GB ram, which is the worst you can run it on. Of course in such case it's better to close most of other apps. At peak, from my tests, it uses about 4/5 GB of ram. So, if you have 16 gb or more, it will be better in terms of running it while also running other apps.

16gb isnt that bad, considering local AI. A little beefy but will appeal to the offline crew.

u/silentspade_5

Amazing! But I'm afraid it will be a swap storm for people with 8/16 GBs of Mac, right?

u/keenanndave

The app simply does NOt work. I bought it and tried 2 simple requests 1) create an image from text and 2) create an image from an image. In both cases I got complete garbage back.

u/hi_codeonholiday

actually, I love this idea but for my experience, the image gen locally often have low quality and doesn't follow the prompt correctly. So I think you should let free trial for some days or some times
