[macOS] SmoothCapture - Create polished demo in minutes - July Updates

完整上下文原始内容 · Reddit

Testing 3d device interaction Hey everyone, I've been building a macOS screen recording app, Smooth Capture, and wanted to share the July update. About the app Smooth Capture is a native Mac app for making polished app demo videos. You can record your Mac, iPhone/iPad over USB, or iOS Simulator, then add zooms, captions, cursor effects, webcam, music, annotations, and device frames in one timeline. Problem Making a good app demo still takes too many tools. One app to record. Another for mockups. Another for captions or zooms. Then more work to export for your website, docs, App Store, or launch post. I’m trying to make that whole flow faster inside one Mac native app. Comparison Compared to tools like Screen Studio, Tella, Rotato, Camtasia, etc: Native macOS app One-time purchase, no subscription Records Mac, iPhone/iPad, and iOS Simulator Built-in 2D/3D device frames More focused on app demos, tutorials, launch teasers, and App Store-style videos July update The biggest focus this month was export flexibility. I added: Transparent ProRes export for reusable website / launch videos HEVC export for smaller high-quality files Better 3D iPhone and MacBook frames Drag-and-drop backgrounds 3D environment scenes Smoother zooms, cursor motion, click ripples, and framing Faster 3D export with render FPS progress Full changelog is here: https://smoothcapture.app/changelog Pricing $29 for 1 device $39/year for 3 devices True lifetime license with updates. Record and edit for free, unlock export when ready. Feedback I’m still trying to figure out where Smooth Capture should go next. If you make app demos, tutorials, or launch videos, I’d love to hear what feels annoying in your current workflow. Also be honest if this feels unnecessary, too niche, or if another tool already solves this well enough for you. That kind of feedback is actually the most useful. It looks very cool! Even though I'm not your audience, I'd think twice before purchasing it for $50, it is not a small price for an app, which may stop getting support at any moment (because it is not behind big names, users like me won't be confident whether it is a good investment). Have you considered subscription-type model so you pay when you actually want to use it?

Thank you for your comment. I thought one-time payment is more attractive, but you just made me realize why not just try it. Thanks again ❤️

The app looks so cool and smooth. Just like the name 😅 But I think the pricing is a bit high. Does this has a free trial? Or may be a simple pricing based on project count? Since users might be only using it to make a few project related videos.

thanks for the suggestion, the app is free to try all the features. right now there is no user account, no login so it is not easy to control the limit. dont you mind to register/login to use app?

you can think of this app is more like Screen Studio + Rotato all combine

One time is fine just the cost would be better at half that...more of the correct range.

thank you so much for the suggestion, perhaps I should lower the price

This is honestly perfect timing 🎉 I've been juggling exactly the "five tools" problem you described for app demo videos and was about to go shopping for a Screen Studio alternative. The transparent ProRes export + built-in device frames combo is what sold me, that's usually the part that needs three other apps. One question: for the 3D device frame scenes, does the transparent export carry through the whole composited scene, or just the raw screen capture layer? Trying to figure out if I can drop this straight into a Framer/website background.

u/tuanvuvn007楼主回复

yes it does, just export using prores and enable transparent background

I think this solves one of my use case, bit do you have trial so that ai can decide before purchasing.

u/tuanvuvn007楼主回复

the app is free to try, all features except export into the final video file

this is really cool! for the demo you showed, does it come with an iPhone render?

u/tuanvuvn007楼主回复

Yes exactly like the video demo above, it comes with 3 iPhone 17 pro colors (orange, silver and blue)

Does he support MCP? That is, can I use Codex to automatically edit videos for me.

u/tuanvuvn007楼主回复

Not now but soon, I am still experiment with the MCP workflow

Cool app! I don't see $29 price for personal use, instead it's $49 for me. Was it a discount that has already ended?

Sales not going well, people keep asking for a lifetime deal, so I reverted. You can access all the options here https://www.creem.io/stores/smoothcapture; it’s just not officially visible on the website.

Not to diss on you at all but there are at least a dozen screenecorders launched within the past one year using the same codebase which look exactly like this. I have tried several of them but they all fail to do some simple things. they do not offer free crop, which is my biggest concern. they bloat with bless and whistles. I do not want an AI feature to detect I am smiling or frowning. they implement layouts poorly. they are unreliable. unexpected shutdown and no recovery. Imagine recording a 30 min video only to have it crash. Inability to import and overlay gifs, memes, chroma etc Separate audio channels where if I do cut between takes, I can manipulate the audion level independently. Even in your current version, I see that is not possible. all of them have dark theme. Like I said, I am not hating on you. Just saying the market is tough. Happy to answer more questions if you want shoot me a DM. Great work!!
