SmoothCapture 1.2.41 - A unique and fun macOS screen recorder
Hey everyone, I've been building a macOS screen recording app, SmoothCapture, over the past few months and wanted to share where it's at right now. I first shared it here a while ago. Back then it felt like just another screen recorder. Since then I've been using it daily for my own work and kept improving it based on small frustrations I ran into. About the app Native Swift + Metal screen recorder built exclusively for Mac 3D device frames (iPhone, iPad, MacBook) Lens / lightbox effect to highlight focus areas Smooth zoom + pan with cursor tracking Multi-clip timeline editing Cloud upload with shareable links Problem Recording is easy. But editing + making the video actually look good/unique and ready to share still takes more effort than it should. Comparison Compared to tools like Screen Studio or others: 3D device frames (especially for iOS demos) Fun effects like lens distortion, Lightbox Focused on making demos feel more “unique” instead of raw recordings Pricing: $49 for 1 device $99 for 3 devices True lifetime license with updates. https://smoothcapture.app/pricing ------------------------------------------------------ Not gonna lie I see new screen recorder tools popping up almost every day. Some are free, some are really polished. It does feel a bit… stressful. At the same time, I do think SmoothCapture is different in a few ways, especially if you're doing iOS demos or want more control over how the recording looks. What I'm trying to figure out If you've used screen recorders before: What's still missing? What feels annoying today? What would make you switch tools? Transparency I'm Vu, solo dev building this. https://smoothcapture.app

The device frames are a cool touch, especially for product demos . I really like it.but if I'm being honest, for myself I'm not sure it's worth paying just for that feature when there are some free open source options . But to be fair, I rarely screen capture often (or ever). If I were doing more product demos I might have a different opinion.
Yeah, I totally understand that. I saw buyers mainly iOS devs that want a better way to demo their apps
Saved it for now, I will consider it later. For me price seems to be higher. Good luck!

How does your cursor tracking work? Is it based on recording the coordinates while recording the screen with your app, or is it some flavor of 2D tracking?
Yes, during recoding the app also capture cursor movement separately then later overlay on top the video. This allow flexibility and customization like changing cursor shape, size and movements
This could be quite useful to me.
Thanks, curious, do you use it for a tutorial or product demo?
This is a copy of Recordly, which already is free and open-source.
looking good but also bit jumpy?
Too fast? Maybe the jumpiness is from me scrubbing the timeline? Not the final render video
I’m a long time Screen Studio user and this one looks really find to me. Do you offer a free trial?
The app is free to try, only when you satisfied and decide to export to final video then it require a license
That’s awesome, looks really good
Thank you
At 19€ you have my patronage. Not at the current one.
Good job, my Vietnamese fellow
Thanks mate
it looks so cinematic!
Pretty neat, I was looking for something like that some days ago. Well done
I bought it, I use it, I like it. I was having weird issues, lagging and stuttering with cap.so, and switched to this. Works like a charm. Perfectly smooth video capture and synced audio. Worth the $50.
Wishlist!!! That’s what I can see, sent you a dm please check.
