Facegate is neat!
Facegate is an app that provides a (sort of simulated) Face ID for macs. You can find it at https://github.com/dweep-desai/FaceGate-Mac. It is free and for me, at least, it works pretty well. It is a timesaver, for my use cases. For context, here's my setup: M3 Max 16 inch MacBook Pro with macOS 26.5.2

I literally thought Facegate meant that Apple just got into some sort of scandal with FaceID
me too
That’s another scandal
Do you know if it’ll work to unlock things like okta verify?
It’s superficial without the depth scanning of the face
It works pretty well for me on my M4 Pro MacBook Pro. It locks your apps behind Face ID or Touch ID and you can use a fallback password. I'm hoping the developer can get it to also lock files or folders.
Interesting. What's the fallback if you... well... die? Is there a master password or some other avenue to unlock? I mean, aside from the hitman who killed you dragging your face in front of your Mac to unlock your offshore banking account. That only happens in the movies. I think. Perhaps in TV as well.
It doesn't remove your password. It adds another mechanism to unlock the computer. That said, I'll need a really good reason to trust it.

That is indeed exactly how I am using it.
