ViewPorts – A live view of every port on your Mac
Hey everyone! What started as a small diagnostic tool to figure out why my Thunderbolt daisy chain wasn’t working has evolved into something much more useful that I wanted to share. ViewPorts shows every device and connection on your Mac, right in your menu bar. It walks the entire USB and Thunderbolt tree, including hubs, and surfaces details like total power draw, per-port power usage, speed, and connection type. Core features - Live per-port status in your menu bar (USB, Thunderbolt, HDMI, SD Card Reader. Physical connections only) - Safe eject for USB devices and disks - Notifications for connect, disconnect, and unmount events - Visual warnings for USB fallback and high power draw - Clear connection types including daisy chaining - Rename devices or hide them - Menu bar icon changes to match your device (MacBook, iMac, Mac Studio, Mac Mini, etc) Comparison Most tools show a flat list of devices. ViewPorts walks the entire USB and Thunderbolt tree and shows how everything is actually connected and powered. One thing I would especially love feedback on is DisplayLink support. I do not have a DisplayLink dock to test with, so if you do, I would really appreciate hearing how it behaves. Price is $6.99 USD one time. I can actually see this being handy if you use hubs or Thunderbolt docks a lot. Half the battle is just figuring out what’s connected where lmao. Thanks for sharing
IO Registry Explorer is a good tool for that which helped me figure it out in the past. You just gotta know that you need to download the item "Additional Tools for Xcode" from the "More Downloads" page on the Apple Developer site lol. This app will certainly make this easier for most users including past me who could have used it xd; Although the IO Registry Explorer would certainly still offer additional details for experts who need to debug Thunderbolt, etc.
No support for macOS 15 :(
This looks like the best of the recent USB monitoring apps. I use a thunderbolt dock with a ton of items plugged in and this could be helpful with seeing why speeds are occasionally slow.
If you do end up giving it a purchase, let me know! I'd love to see how your docks function with it and whatnot. 🙂 But to be clear: USB is just a tiny part of this. This is more about ALL the physical ports on your Mac!
Soon I'm going to buy a Thunderbolt dock, so this will be great for me.

This is actually one of the things I didn’t think I needed and while I’m still not sure about it, it might come in handy. If you have hub connected does it recognize all the devices connected to it separately?

I use lemon squeezy as well and I would recommend using their overlay instead of full page checkout because it’s impacting your page load times

This is neat but doesn't solve a real enough problem for me to pay up front. Just my 2c. Maybe consider freemium? Also not supporting older os is a deal breaker for me
Not work here and there is not contact tap on there website or in the app. This is not allowed. Every Site must have a Contact for support!

Looks very interesting and very polished, both the app and the website. I think a short video clip or animation would help to illustrate the responsiveness to change; it took me a moment to figure out what was being presented with the power consumption values.

Does this only work on Tahoe? I have 3 Mac’s two on sequoia and one on Tahoe.
Correct, macOS 26 right now as theres a few APIs I had to use to get some of the data correctly via Swift.

It's dynamic directly from API's Apple provides. It samples too.
Great work on this! I love the distinction between a flat list & tree view, that’s exactly where most current tools fall short IMHO. Does this app track long-term history for intermittent disconnects, or is it strictly real-time? E.g. HDD with Epstein files keeps disconnecting 😬Either way, it looks like a must-have for my Thunderbolt setup. Would love a discount code if you’re still picking commenters!
