Life archive? People journal? Definitely not a personal CRM. Looking for beta testers.

I've forgotten people. Not lost like they're gone. Lost like I can no longer remember their name. The girl I helped sell lemonade with on the side of the road. The first person who had a crush on me. Friends I spent hundreds of hours with. They're still out there somewhere. But the details are fading. A few years ago I realized that journaling helps me remember days, but not necessarily people. Someone can be scattered across hundreds of entries, buried under years of writing. So I built Ember. Ember is a journal built around people. When you write an entry, you can mention someone with @/Aarav. Every memory involving them gathers in one place automatically. Years later, you can open Aarav's page and see your entire history together in your own words. The app is intentionally simple: • People • Journals • Stories • Worlds • Tags That's basically it. A journal entry can belong to people, worlds, and stories at the same time. You might write about a trip with @/Aarav and @/Christine. Months later, you can open Aarav's timeline and see every memory you've ever written about him. Or open a story and read that entire chapter of your life from beginning to end. Pricing: • Free for local use • $4/month or $40/year for backup & sync through your own iCloud • JSON export with documented format • Planned imports from Bear and Day One • No analytics • No AI Would genuinely love feedback from people who journal or keep notes about their lives. I love this idea. It's something I've been thinking about for a long time. It would be nice to have a log of the things I've done, not just for myself, but for people in the future as well. We have a collection of my grandfather's letters that have been super interesting to the family, but our generation doesn't really have anything like that anymore.

Thankyou. and you can add notes for each person. so can add letters from grandfather there. also you can tag those letter note anywhere

Just signed up for the beta! I'm the developer of Digital Carrot, which is a pluggable focus apps that blocks distractions until you hit a set of daily goals. I was wondering if there is a programmatic way to check if I've added a journal entry for the day? I'd like to make a plugin to set a goal for myself to start journalling.

No AI THANK GOD! This is what I’d like to see more in apps nowadays. Just installed it. Excited to test it out and provide feedback 😄

Why is it a subscription model for using your own iCloud backup?

u/InformationFun4466楼主回复

So it's more like development and support for the project. I don't want to lock any core features I don't want to introduce features for just to justify the cost. User can export import without any restriction for their own backup. If they want convience they can subscribe. And for this project philosophy and my predicted userbase just asking for development and support cost will not be sustainable. So i think this will make my life sustainable to continue the project and also fair to users. I'll be transperant about all this in forums i think, it'll be helpful for understanding.

That's understandable, and thank you for being transparent.

I don't personally feel the need to document my entire life like that, but I do really like the name that you chose for this app. Good luck!

So this is more life journaling and instead of a linear timeline of entires, we will have more ways to scrub through the things that have happened. So i used the name life archive because if we do journal for years and open a closed one profile we can look back the story of them. Thankyou❤️

This is such and interesting idea. Very impressive work! Congrats! 😄

Honestly, I prefer one-time purchases too. I looked at it pretty hard, but Ember is a one-person project across Mac, iPhone, and iPad, and if it succeeds it'll be my full-time work. A pure one-time payment model would mean constantly needing new customers to fund ongoing development, support, and maintenance. So I tried to be as fair as I could. The journal itself is local-first, your data stays on your device, and import/export is a first-class feature. I'm even building merge-conflict and deduplication tools so people can sync manually if they want. The subscription is only for sync. I know people hate subscriptions, and I'm not trying to lock anyone in. I'm just trying to build something sustainable. i refer obsidian model for this. obsidian using md files so they naturally a user use can use thirdparty tools to sync. but in swift i can't do that. so yeah, in beta version itself i'm working on the import and export. let's see if the app get real traction and it's sustainable i'll release a one time payment model. thankyou

That's valid, completely forgot this is the obsidian model. Gonna give this a go, just downloaded the TestFlight build!

i'm planned to design the graph to be reflect how much mentions you have on a world and person. also i think of feature on sort by mention count in people list view.
