Saving the work environment

Dear r/macapps, I'm looking for a tool for Mac that lets me restore or manage my workspace. For example, I’d like to have XCode on the screen at a specific window position I’ve set, and in the same size as when I last exited XCode. At the same time, I want to place Upnote at a specific screen position and maybe have Textastic somewhere on the screen as well. Is there a tool like that?

What makes a macos app feel truly native and polished?

hello guys, I’m a backend software engineer, so most of my experience is with api , infrastructure, databases, and server-side architecture. Recently I started building my first macos app and I’m realizing that making something work is very different from making it feel native, polished, and pleasant to use on macos I’d love to learn from people who use or build Mac apps regularly ! Thanks, folks !

DevKnife: 30 developer tools in one offline native Mac app (v1.15 update)

Hey, I'm Simon, an indie Mac app dev. It's been 10 months since I launched DevKnife and I posted about it here. Since then, it grew from bundling 11 tools to 30. So I thought it was a good time to share an update with the community. Problem As a software developer, you run into a lot of small tasks throughout the day: decoding Base64, testing an HTTP endpoint, inspecting JSON, checking if a website's design is pixel-

ViewPorts – A live view of every port on your Mac

Hey everyone! What started as a small diagnostic tool to figure out why my Thunderbolt daisy chain wasn’t working has evolved into something much more useful that I wanted to share. ViewPorts shows every device and connection on your Mac, right in your menu bar. It walks the entire USB and Thunderbolt tree, including hubs, and surfaces details like total power draw, per-port power usage, speed, and connection type. C

[OS] Rustcast - raycast inspired open source launcher

If you use raycast, you're probably impressed at what all it can do. Well as a developer, I was as well, and I decided that maybe I could make my own version, thats open source, just to check out how raycast worked under the hood and what all bugs they had to trudge through. That lead to the birth of my own tiny launcher, that I've recently been developing like crazy. There wasn't really any problem, just that I was

[macOS] Picview — a lightweight image viewer that feels closer to Windows Photos

[Problem] I built Picview for people who want a simple image viewer on macOS: open an image, browse with arrow keys, zoom with the mouse wheel, and close it quickly. [Comparison] Compared with Preview, Picview focuses more on fast image browsing. It supports arrow-key navigation, mouse-wheel zoom, trackpad gestures, folder browsing, pinned image/text windows, OCR, and 30+ formats including RAW. Core features: Fast im

[OS] (YapToText, Mac App Store) - my free, open-source alternative to WhisperFlow and superwhisper. Looking for testers!

My hands don't work so I am completely dependent on dictation apps. But I don't want to pay insane subscriptions for features I can create locally. So I created this beautiful app to say goodbye to those subscriptions. Because why should somebody have to pay for accessibility? The problem is every good dictation app wanted a monthly subscription, and most of them sent my voice off to a server to do it. I didn't want

[MAC] Editorio — native macOS markdown + code editor, free forever

Dev here, 20 years in. Built Editorio for myself a while back because nothing on the mac did everything I wanted in one place. It's polished enough now that I figured I'd share it. Subscription text editor. Subscription notes app. Subscription markdown previewer. (lol). We live in the future.
