I built a Mac wellness app to help desk workers improve posture, move more, and reduce screen fatigue
Problem I spend 8–10 hours a day in front of a computer, and after years of desk work, I kept running into the same problems: Poor posture Eye strain Neck, shoulder, and back stiffness Sitting for hours without moving Forgetting to drink enough water I tried several break reminder apps, and while many of them worked well, I realized I was looking for something different. I didn't just want a timer telling me to take a break. I wanted something that would help me build healthier desk habits throughout the day. I also wanted reminders to be based on my actual computer usage instead of simply counting down while I was away from my desk. Solution I'm both a Sports Physiology specialist and a software developer, so I decided to build the app I wanted to use myself. Posturio is a desk wellness app that combines: Activity-aware reminders Posture reminders Eye-care breaks and guided eye exercises Hydration reminders Movement reminders Guided stretching and mobility exercises It tracks active computer usage and automatically pauses reminders when you're away from your Mac, then resumes them when you return, making reminders feel more natural and less disruptive. About the exercise content The exercise routines were selected and reviewed by me based on sports physiology and workplace wellness principles. They're specifically designed for people who spend long hours sitting at a desk to reduce stiffness, encourage movement, improve circulation, and make it easier to maintain healthy habits during a busy workday. Comparison Popular alternatives include LookAway and DeskRest, both of which are excellent break reminder apps. Posturio takes a broader approach. Rather than focusing primarily on break reminders, it combines activity-aware reminders with posture, eye care, hydration, movement, and guided exercise routines in a single desk wellness app. Another difference is that the exercise content is designed and reviewed by a Sports Physiology specialist rather than being a collection of generic stretches. The routines are intentionally short, simple, and desk-friendly, so they're practical to perform between meetings, coding sessions, or focused work. Pricing Free: Core features Wellness Pack: €4.99 (one-time purchase) Mac App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/posturio/id6775757325?mt=12 I'd genuinely love feedback from fellow Mac users. If you spend long hours at your desk, what would you want a wellness app to do that existing apps don't?

Thanks for this, I spend way too much time in a chair!
Thanks! That was actually one of the reasons I built it. After spending long hours coding myself, I realized how easy it is to stay glued to the chair without noticing.
do you have a mobile app for this?
Not yet. It's currently macOS only. An iPhone version is definitely on my roadmap, especially with sync between Mac and iPhone. I'm focusing on making the Mac experience as solid as possible first.
Have you seen any of the apps that use your airpods to automatically notify you of bad posture? There could be some interesting movement data from airpods / watch / other wearables.
That's a really cool idea. I'll definitely consider it for future versions of Posturio. Thanks for the suggestion!
Looks very neat! Illustrations are cool
Thank you! I'm glad you like them. I wanted the illustrations to be simple and easy to follow during a quick break.
NIce app! Would it be possible to use the camera to monitor my posture and remind me when I am slouching? 🤣 I think if you ask a VLM (visual language model) "is there a person in the frame" and "does this person have good posture", that would go pretty far.
Thank you! 😄 That's definitely something I've been thinking about. I've actually considered camera-based posture detection before, and it's one of the features I'd like to explore in future versions of Posturio.
this is a good start, and something i would use probably the first 2 weeks and then find the notifications annoying and ignore them. and i think a feature worth adding would be to add motion tracking from airpods data so that if the head tilts or moves forward (after setting up where you want to be) it beeps at you to remind you to sit up straight, tilt head back etc.
Thanks! I totally agree that's one of the biggest challenges with reminder apps. thing I'm trying to do is make the reminders feel less annoying by basing them on actual computer activity instead of just fixed timers. I actually hadn't thought about using the AirPods motion sensors. That's a really cool idea. If Apple's APIs make it possible, I'd love to explore it in a future update. Thanks for the suggestion!
Great idea! Useful for everyone working from home and for developers who spend hours in a chairs too! :)
Thanks! I really appreciate it!
I need this app
Hope you enjoy it.
I have exactly this problem with my back, I’m only 18 and even though I go to the gym a lot, since I’m working a lot on my computer I’ve had troubles with my back and never think about it at the right moment until it hurts. Will download this for sure!
I hope Posturio helps you build small movement habits before discomfort turns into pain. I'd love to hear your feedback after you've had a chance to use it!
Would be great to have it on windows, I have to use it at work
Thanks! 😊 I've had a few people ask for a Windows version already, so it's definitely on my radar.
nice!
Thank you.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your feedback. That's a great suggestion, and it's definitely something I'm considering for a future update. The exercises are already designed to target the areas most affected by prolonged desk work, such as the neck, shoulders, wrists, back, hips, and legs, since these are the parts of the body that are under the most stress during long hours at a desk. I also wanted the app to be practical for real workplaces. That's why users can choose between seated-only exercises or a mixed routine with both seated and standing exercises, depending on their environment and what they're comfortable doing.
