[Update] LookAway 2.2 - Planned Breaks

完整上下文原始内容 · Reddit

Problem: The issue with many break reminder apps is not that they remind you too little, but that they do it without enough context. If a reminder pops up while you're in a meeting, recording your screen, presenting, or in the middle of something time-sensitive, it quickly becomes annoying and easy to dismiss. There's also a second problem: a timer that only fires every X minutes never lines up with the breaks you actually plan your day around, like lunch or an afternoon walk. I wanted LookAway to solve both better. Comparison: The main thing I think LookAway does differently compared to other apps (for eg. Time Out, Stretchly, BreakTimer, and DeskRest) is iPhone sync. During breaks, it can sync with your iPhone so you're less likely to just switch devices and keep scrolling. As far as I know, that's not something the other apps in this category offer. The second big difference is smart pause / context awareness. LookAway tries to avoid interrupting you at the wrong moment by adapting around things like meetings, screen recording, video playback, and similar situations where a forced reminder would feel frustrating. Other things that set it apart: posture reminders and blink reminders in addition to break reminders a heads-up before breaks so they don't feel abrupt a full stats experience with Screen Score, session patterns, and natural breaks breaks you can schedule at a fixed time, that still respect your flow (new in 2.2) New Features (2.2): The headline of this update is Planned Breaks. Until now, LookAway breaks were all interval-based: take a break every X minutes. Planned Breaks let you schedule a break at a fixed time of day instead, like a lunch pause or an afternoon walk. You give each one a name, a length, and the days it repeats on. The part I care about most: they still respect your flow. If a planned break is due while you're in a meeting, on a call, watching a video, or deep in a focus app, it waits and starts once you're free. If you step away on your own, that time just counts toward the break. Price: LookAway costs $19 and comes with a 7-day trial. You can purchase a license from here. It's also available on the App Store. Happy to answer any questions about the app! Kushagra

This is a brilliant app that's become better with the update! So clean and non intrusive

The iPhone sync is sick! Simply love the UI. I don't think most screen time apps really have clean UI that doesn't annoy you.

I like that it respects your flow, especially meetings.

For things like screentime or winddown reminders, thoughts about adding a selfcontrol-esque feature to lock u out?

This is a better framing than traditional timer-based break apps—context first instead of interval first. Planned Breaks especially feels like the missing piece for real workflows. Does LookAway learn patterns over time, or is it strictly rule-based for now?

I am not sure what you mean by the fake smart pause thing, but LookAway actually respects meetings, video playback, screen recording etc.

i don’t mind competition, and i’m usually fine with people taking inspiration from lookaway. but this isn’t just a similar idea -- your landing page is a near 1:1 copy of lookaway’s landing page, from the structure and positioning to the way the features are framed. building another break-reminder app is completely fair. copying another indie dev’s landing page and using it to promote your own product crosses a line.
