Menu Bar app with triggers
I quit using Bartender after its unexpected change in ownership. I've tried Ice and Thaw as replacements. They work, but I sorely miss the trigger feature that was a highlight of Bartender. I would do things like: - hide the WiFi unless I wasn't connected to a network - show the sound icon when my Mac is muted - only show Badgeify if it had a notification Is there any other menubar management app that supports triggers?

I use Barbee. It has automation built in. It says: "Monitor menu bar item changes, then perform an action." So that might be what you want. But I don't use it, so I can't tell you for sure. Support: https://hsiangho.github.io/2018/06/13/SupportPage/
That's exactly what I want, thanks! I knew of Barbee but didn't realize it had this function.
Are the new owners bad?
That's been the subject of some debate, but I'd rather support an indie developer (i.e. the guy who started Bartender) than a corporate owner when I have an option. Plus, the handoff from owner-to-owner wasn't handled well and doesn't fill me with much confidence that customers will be treated well.
Barbee’s automation for monitoring menu bar items is the closest thing to Bartender’s old triggers. It’s clearly built on the same idea. The WiFi, mute, and Badgeify conditions you listed should all be straightforward there.
That is the thing that I miss about Bartender
Bartender's trigger system was genuinely one of a kind. Barbee does have some automation but it's not quite as polished. hopefully Ice adds something similar down the road
Yeah, the trigger feature was honestly the best part of Bartender. Haven’t seen another app handle conditional icons that smoothly yet.
also worth looking at Keystroke Pro or Mango 5Star if you want more complex trigger logic. they're more automation-focused but can watch for menu bar state changes and react accordingly.
Neither of these are menu bar managers. - Mango 5Star "puts developers' 5-star reviews on their Home screen to cheer them up." - Keystroke Pro shows an overlay of key presses.
Keystroke Pro is like KeyScreen, these apps show key presses or keystrokes on the screen. How are these relevant here?

u/MaxGaav suggested Barbee. I've been trying it out – it's triggers are clearly based on Bartender's and work fairly well.
