I kept getting lost between my macOS Spaces, wasting time. So I built SpaceJump

完整上下文原始内容 · Reddit

I work across a lot of macOS Spaces, one per project or client, each with its own apps open and arranged how I like: browser, notes, terminal, whatever that project needs. The problem: every Space looks identical, so I kept swiping around hunting for the one I actually needed, and Mission Control just shows blank "Desktop 3, Desktop 4" thumbnails. So I built SpaceJump for myself. It turned into something over 200 people now use daily, and the regular emails I get (people who had been looking for this for years, thanking me for building it) are why I keep working on it and refining it further. Problem it solves Apple gives you Spaces but no way to tell them apart or switch to the right one quickly. SpaceJump fixes that: Name each Space with an icon and color. Names show in the menu bar and inside Mission Control, so you always know which desktop is which. Switch fast with ⌘+0: a quick picker showing all your Spaces, type to filter, or hit it again to jump back to where you came from. Also, (re)name spaces even faster there. Move a window to another Space without Mission Control: grab it, hold Shift, drop it on the target Space. Time tracking per Space and per app, with idle detection and CSV export if you bill by project. Native Swift, about 8MB, runs locally on your Mac. How it compares Native Mission Control: can't name Spaces, no quick jump, lots of swiping. SpaceJump adds real names (menu bar, (optionally) camera notch, and Mission Control), a keyboard switcher, and time tracking. Spaceman: a menu-bar Space indicator which shows names only in the menu bar, not inside Mission Control, and it has no quick-switcher, no per-Space/per-app time tracking and no moving windows between Spaces. Spaces Renamer: renames only, no switching, requires disabling SIP and a workaround on Apple Silicon, and may break on recent macOS. SpaceJump needs none of that. Pricing Free 14-day trial, no credit card. Then a one-time $9.99 with lifetime updates, use on 2 Macs. No subscription. → getspacejump.com Happy to answer anything, and I'd genuinely like to hear what's missing for you. For transparency (per sub rules): I'm Philipp Schickling, the developer. I'm one of the 200 using this daily and I like it a lot. Hope the launch and quit of Space-bound apps will be added to the functionality in the not too distant future.

Thank you so much for the early support, I am happy it works well for you!! I keep developing the app. Can you quickly tell me about your idea? You mean, to automatically open apps in a certain space, when switching to it? Or to assign an app to a space, so that it gets opened there always?

Just downloaded. First impressions, very happy. I have long been lost by and in Spaces. Thanks for building it!

Does it also have profiles? I have multiple screens but also sometimes work on a single screen, curious to know how it handles that. My spaces always get scattered around.

Great job; Just purchased it. Thanks for spending the time to make this work and sharing your product with us.

Is it working on the Dev Beta MacOS 27? I understand how it’s a moving target and it can break, but I’m curious since I’m running Golden Gate.

I had a user today reporting that the mission control labels (only visuals) are not supported from MacOS 27, I will fix that those days. Rest functions perfectly. Feel free to try it, 14 days trial!

I did, and I actually already added a merge request , but nothing moves on their side. I'd guess, they can't keep up with the requests

Better then total spaces?? Might switch then. Also does it work on MOS 15?? I won't update to 26 lol

Literally the first thing I tried to vibe code was this exact idea - it was back before ai coding was good enough for a dum dummy like me to complete it, so I gave up. I am SO glad you’ve done this, and done it well. Clap clap clap instant purchase

I downloaded it and bought it right away. The app is quite convenient and the price is low. It's convenient that the Name of space are listed both in the menu and as a separate item.

The time tracking per Space is the feature I didn't know I needed. I've been roughly estimating how much time goes to each client project, but doing it manually is annoying enough that it never sticks. Having it tied to the Space automatically removes the friction entirely. One question: does the idle detection pause the timer when you step away, or does it just log the idle time separately?

This is one of those "why isn't this in macOS already" apps. Naming Spaces and actually showing the names inside Mission Control is the missing piece — I waste so much time swiping through identical blank desktops. The ⌘+0 "hit it again to jump back" touch is clever. Quick q: do the names survive a restart, and does it cope if you add/remove a Space on the fly?
