Menu bar management app that can dynamically show all menu bar items when screen is above a specific size? (That’s not Bartender)

I want to see all menu bar items when I’m on my Apple Studio Display, but then on my MacBook Pro’s built-in display, I want some menu bar icons to be hidden. As far as I'm aware, Bartender is the only app that offers this feature. Neither Ice nor Thaw does. This is the most important features in a menu bar management app for me and it’s way I stuck with Bartender despite all the controversies over the last couple of years. Is there a better alternative that has this feature?

I use Thaw and you can set different layouts for different monitors. So, on your external monitor you can show alll items while at the same time you hide some away on your internal Mac screen. To me, that sounds exactly what you ask for. Why do you explicitly say that Thaw can't do that?

I'm not saying it's necessarily better, but Barbee also offers this feature. I recently switched back to Bartender after its Pro release, but Barbee is still a solid, well-functioning alternative. If you're unhappy with Bartender for any reason, I think Barbee is your best option.

I'm not sure if I understand what you want exactly. But Bartender aside, I think Barbee is the most feature-rich.

There is a PR https://github.com/jordanbaird/Ice/pull/612 for Ice that is still open, but right in that thread the Thaw dev says he's already implemented the same feature in Thaw https://github.com/stonerl/Thaw . So rather than waiting on Ice to merge it, Thaw is probably your answer right now.

The key distinction here is per-display layouts, not just a manual hide/show separator. From the replies, Thaw sounds like the first thing to re-check, and Barbee is probably the closer Bartender-style alternative if you want more rules. I’d test the exact Studio Display ↔ MacBook flow, plus fullscreen apps and “Displays have separate Spaces”, because menu bar managers often work in the normal case but get weird around those transitions.
