Keep giving it away for free until you have 15+ 5 star reviews then slap $2.99 on it and move on to your next project. A lot of people use Get Sauce for this which is already free.

Yes! Yours does a few things more, but you still need to grab traction for it - keep posting about it, keep it free and then make it like $2.99 nothing more. If you do a free trial make it a seperate app they grab on your website. Don't do a free trial then upgrade IAP route. People screw up their free trials all the time and it will be easier to give an extended trial with an external not MAS app. Good luck! I think you're on a good path!

Yea man people need to know that first...Let people try it for freee and the app shall have good traction..and later u can bring in the one time payment...No one would just spend money to try something out

the privacy boundary needs to be visible at the moment of search because image search means the selected pixels leave the Mac. i'd show the destination before upload, keep a local-only OCR/text-search path, and add one-click delete for the built-in browser's cookies/history. a good regression test is selecting a region with an email/API key and making sure no provider receives it until the user confirms.
Except from OCR, which is local. The other image search takes place through official search engines like google and bing ect, so the image is processed by them
The "search not capture" framing is the right wedge, since TextSniper stops at the clipboard. The comparison I'd add though is macOS Live Text — right-click search is already system-wide and free for the text path. Your speed advantage is real for arbitrary screen regions; is that the main thing you're leaning on over the built-in?

Pretty cool stuff! Does the image recognition run locally or does it send screenshots to a server? Neat idea either way, but that answer decides whether I'd put it on a work machine.
The app just automates the process of image search. All the search happens through the official image search engines like google and bing.
Is this going to be Sherlocked by MacOS 27? I can’t remember if this will become the default. App looks super cool and I will try it when I get to my Mac. Thanks for making it free, at least temporarily.

One thing worth getting right early, from having shipped a Mac tool that also draws a selection over the screen: the permission moment is where most of these lose people. Screen Recording permission on macOS has a scary-sounding prompt, requires a relaunch, and lands on the user before they've seen any value. If your first run asks for it cold, a meaningful share of installs stop there and you'll never know why, because a denied permission looks identical to someone who just wandered off. What helps: explain in your own UI what the permission is for and what you don't do with it, before triggering the system prompt. A single sentence like "macOS calls this Screen Recording, we only read the region you select and nothing is recorded" converts far better than the OS dialog alone, because the OS wording is the scariest possible framing of what you're doing. Related, and it's the point the privacy comment above is circling: since image search uploads pixels to a third party, the moment of truth isn't your privacy policy, it's the instant before the upload. Showing which engine is about to receive the selection, right there in the flow, does more for trust than any amount of documentation, and it also protects you from the accidental-upload complaint that shows up in reviews eventually. On the pricing advice in the other reply - reviews-then-charge is reasonable, but don't leave it too long. Retrofitting a price onto a free tool means the existing base experiences it as a takeaway, and that conversation is much harder than pricing from the start.
