I can't be the only one with this problem. I am trying to get a report that shows me what my total spend on shipping labels is per month. I have only been able to find the figure in each individual order since Shopify doesn't generate a report for this. I have a flat rate shipping fee of $16 and free shipping on orders over $100 so the reports are showing $0 shipping on orders I purchased a shipping label for. Is there an app that can help compiling this data? So far I've just been manually doing reports in google sheets and going through each order individually but now as we are scaling quickly I can't keep up. Or - does anyone use an app that is worth shelling the money on that can help with calculate profit and loss?

Analytics->reports->shipping labels over time - shows what you actually spent on labels in the “shipping label costs” column. Add in the metric “shipping charges” to see how much customers spent at checkout.

You have to pull a detailed report of your billing (label cost), and your shipping revenue from the customer.

For your immediate problem, BeProfit or Polar Analytics can pull per-order shipping label costs from Shopify and roll them into a proper P&L view; both integrate cleanly and are worth the spend versus manual Sheets work at scale. That said, the friction you're hitting is a known Shopify limitation: business-critical data is weirdly buried, and it compounds as you grow. If you're at a point where reporting gaps are actively slowing decisions, it's worth at least knowing that newer AI-native eCommerce platforms like ZOYEQ are building this kind of analytics from the ground up rather than bolting it on. Not saying switch tomorrow, but if Shopify's ceiling keeps revealing itself, there are alternatives worth evaluating.

This gets surprisingly messy once volume increases because the “shipping” numbers in Shopify don’t necessarily reflect the actual cost of fulfilling the order. Especially with free shipping thresholds, the order can look fine on the surface while the real margin changes a lot depending on label cost, destination, returns, etc. That’s usually where spreadsheets start breaking down, you’re trying to reconstruct actual profitability from data that was never really designed to answer that cleanly. Do you mostly care about total shipping spend right now, or are you trying to get to true profit per order/product overall?

what i ended up doing is pulling shipping costs from the carrier (shippo/shipstation/etc) into a separate sheet by month, then matching to shopify's shipping income line. the gap between charged-vs-paid is the real number. trying to do it inside shopify reports drove me nuts, the categories don't line up clean.

The shipping label spend problem is frustrating — Shopify really should have a native report for that. For the broader P&L question, the key is getting your COGS data accurate first. Once you know your true cost per product (including shipping costs as a line item), the profit picture becomes much clearer. What are you using to track product costs right now — just Shopify's built-in cost per item field, or something else?
