Hey everyone, is there a way to track inventory and potential use a barcode scanner to keep stock of my inventory? I’m an online bookstore, and I manually enter all books I keep in stock. Shopify manually subtracts the qty when a book sells. But I’m hopping with a scanner/inventory app, I can save some time by not having to manually enter every single book I stock. Has anyone found something that works for this? Any apps you liked or didn’t like? TIA!

Not directly answering your question, but a related question: are you using a barcode scanner to scan the books for metadata (title, author etc) from a API/catalog, or are you manually input everything by hand?
I don’t have a scanner or use my phone to scan it. I manually create new product, enter the book name, author & synopsis etc for every single book I stock. I’m currently at 600 books and it’s very tedious! Trying to cut back on time if possible! Any tips helps!

Maybe worth checking these two Shopify apps: https://apps.shopify.com/isbn-express-book-importer https://apps.shopify.com/books-import-easy I haven’t used either, so please treat this as a pointer rather than a recommendation. But they seem closer to “import book metadata by ISBN” than general inventory tracking. The main thing I’d check is whether they support the exact fields you need, like author, publisher, edition, cover image, category, and whether they handle bulk import cleanly.

Hey OP, this can be done thru the shopify app on your phone. If a product exists with a matched barcode, shopify can increase the inventory count. If it doesn't exist, then I think you'll get a prompt to add a new product. Details here https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/shopify-admin/shopify-app/inventory-scanner
For the barcode scanning part, Shopify's mobile app actually has a built-in barcode scanner that can look up products and update quantities. Might be worth trying before paying for an app. For the broader inventory tracking side, once you have a lot of SKUs the bigger challenge becomes knowing when to reorder before you run out. Tracking sales velocity per book helps — if a title sells 2 copies a week and you have 4 left, you know you've got about 2 weeks to restock. How many SKUs are you currently managing?
