I have a wife and two young kids. We're at the stage were keeping on track of everything is essential for our lives running well. For instance, forgetting something from the shop means that one of us must look after the kids while the other must run to the shop. I keep wanting to do stock checks regularly so I can pre-empt low stock and replacing it before it becomes an issue. To do prep lists are also something I would love. I've tried Apple reminders, notion, some stock checking apps that are really for small businesses, so it didn't stick. With the time pressure, I essentially want something I can quickly lookup based on the location. For instance, go into one room and scan a barcode or something and just get the list up. Like I find myself in a particular room and I'm like, I'm in this room I might as well do as much as I can. Maybe I’m being a little over dramatic, but life is just a lot smoother if everything is in place when picking up the kids from nursery, then feeding them, bathing them, and getting them to bed. Does anyone have any recommendations? Apps, manual techniques?

Agreed! We try to put in our Walmart app cart asap, even if we go to a different store we know all current needs are in the Walmart list. Since 99% of the time our phone is on us it’s easy to do right away before we forget.
Paper grocery list with inventory levels and sorted by aisles at store. You’re welcome.
thanks will try this out
In my experience (also a parent to two young children) it's less about the specific app or technology and more about simply creating the habit of noting that something is running low: in a dedicated location _right when you notice it is running low_, not "five minutes later" If 2 is infeasible you, can create some sort of reminder to do it before you get distracted. For me, I turn my watch around backwards.
