Hi, I am Using safari and using intel based mac. Some web series do not have English translation enabled. I love to hear in original language but would like to see the translation. For Instance, I was watching Berlin in Jellyfin. So, I want that on safari it will listen to audio and show the translation live somewhere on screen in real time. Any app that you know? Right now, I need spanish to English. More language support is welcomed.

Whisper-based apps are your best bet for this. Rewatch and MacWhisper can do real-time transcription and translation from audio, they use OpenAI's Whisper model locally. The catch with Intel Mac: real-time performance will depend on your chip. Whisper is optimized for Apple Silicon, so Intel might introduce some lag depending on the model size you use. Another option: if Jellyfin supports it, you can add a Spanish subtitle track and use a translation overlay. Less elegant but more reliable than live audio translation.

Thank you, I am trying to configure it now.

For Spanish to English specifically, the cleaner workaround is skipping live audio translation entirely. Jellyfin has an OpenSubtitles plugin you can enable server-side that auto-fetches English subs for most popular shows. Heads up that macOS Live Translate requires Apple Silicon, so that path is closed on Intel.

Disclosure: I built NotchLive, so I’m biased, but this is very close to the exact use case it was made for. It listens to system audio from Safari/Jellyfin and shows captions/translation in a small top bar, so it doesn’t depend on the video site having subtitles. Intel Macs are supported, though real-time speed depends on the chip/model size. One caveat: captions work on macOS 14+, but live translation needs macOS 15+ because it uses Apple Translation. Free captions are included; translation, saved transcripts, Voice Notes, and export are Pro. https://notchlive.app/

live translation and captioning is literally built into the OS. Also, Apple has a really good JIT model that can run in a browser and do captioning and translation.
