My physical book notes are a disaster and I can't find anything I've read — does anyone actually have a system that works?

I've been reading a lot of physical books lately and honestly my note taking system is a complete mess. Screenshots in my camera roll, folded pages I never go back to, random voice memos I forget exist. And the worst part is when I actually want to find something I read weeks ago I just cannot locate it anywhere. I started wondering if anyone else deals with this or if it's just me being disorganized. I've been thinking about ways to fix this for myself, maybe something simple where you just scan the page and it saves the quote with the page number, and later you can search by topic across everything you've read. Like if I search "communication" it just pulls every relevant note from every book I've ever read. Does anyone have a system that actually works for this? Or is physical book note taking just always going to be messy?

Hey so i think this isn’t to hard to build. There are some image to text converters available online, with which you just take a photo wich is as clear as possible and it isolates the text for you. You could save all the pages that you scanned and then just build yourself a simple tool to search through it. You could even go as far as implementing an Ai with a simple API to make the search easier. I also think you could build the picture-scanner into that tool via api.
